01-01-2002 - Alexander Svitov: Making Noise at 2002 WJC
Alexander Svitov, the 3rd overall selection in this past 2001 Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning, hasn't made any friends after two big incidents in successive days at the 2002 World Junior Championships. First, Svitov spat on Canadian forward Brian Sutherby, and the following day sucker-punched Swiss defenseman Beat Forster in the back of the head. The fiery Russian certainly has been the talk of the tournament thus far.

Another playing day in Pardubice and Hradec Kralove ended by disappointment for Czech players. Czechs lost to Slovakia 0:1, USA tied with Sweden 2:2, Canada beaten Switzerland 6:1 and Finland won over Russia 2:1. Team Canada is performing extremly well where as young Czechs are still struggling. You can read more about each of these games in our report.

Although a young club with most of the roster 2002 Draft Eligible these same young players look to be high draft selections at that draft. Defender Mike Komisarek and forwards RJ Umberger look to be in the spotlight as well as Jason Bacashishua in the nets.
