10-30-2000 - Late Round Selections Doing Well

09-07-2000 - Back to the Future 5: The Final Grades
Slap them sticks on the ice, breakout those funny noisemakers you hear on New Years, dump the confetti from the rafters, the Jr Buds won the rookie tournament and looked pretty good doing it. The line of Lance Galbraith-Luca Cereda-Miguel Delisle was the most productive trio in the round robin...
09-06-2000 - Leafs’ Rookie Tournament - Recap
Congratulations to all involved as the Leafs’ rookies sailed through this past weekend’s round robin affair undefeated and won the annual Kitchener Tournament. There were many surprises (some good – some less so) amongst the players representing Toronto at this competition. In the end, though, it was exciting just to see all of the Maple Leafs’ best young players together in one place at one time.
09-05-2000 - Back to the Future 4: Galbraith leads Leafs to the trifecta
It was a wild one alright, but when the dust finally cleared after an empty net goal credited to Jon Zion but actually scored by Vaclav Zavoral the Buds triumphed over the Baby Sabres 7-4 and became the only team to go undefeated, winning the Kitchener Rookie Tournament. The game had all the makings of a record setting rout in the early going as the Leafs’ goals came fast and furious.
09-04-2000 - Back to the Future 3: Galbraith doubles up
The Leafs had yet another long shot pay off in their second game of the Rookie Tournament. Against Carolina it was Ben Ondrus who shone and, while he didn’t let up at all, the New York Rangers have probably seen all they want to see of the team’s other free agent invitee, Lance Galbraith. Not only did he score back-to-back goals in the second to give the Leafs a 3-1 lead, he also served as the line’s constable on patrol, taking on Tommy Bolduc and then later Wes Jarvis.
09-04-2000 - Leafs’ Rookie Tournament – Game 2
The Maple Leafs’ rookies appeared to be far more ready to play from the outset of last night’s match versus the Young Rangers. Virtually everyone in the line-up demonstrated considerably more jump than they had against the Hurricanes on Friday evening.
09-03-2000 - Rookie Invitees looking for contract
If history is any indication, then Lance Galbraith and Ben Ondrus can look forward to a bright future. Last year, the Maple Leafs invited left winger Jacques Lariviere and goaltender Sebastien Centomo to their Rookie Camp as free agents.
09-02-2000 - Back to the Future 2: The Irritants lead the way
After a day of practices and a game day skate, the hopeful future Buds finally had an opportunity to strut their stuff against the rookie squad of the North Carolina Hurricanes. Sporting such luminaries as Josef Vasicek and Jaroslav Svoboda, the visiting side found itself ahead 2-0 just minutes into the second period.
09-02-2000 - The Weekend Warrior
Berard news: The latest information regarding the status of injured Leafs star Bryan Berard is quite startling … at a meeting with his surgeon (Dr. Stanley Chang) this week, Berard was told that the damaged eye would neither improve nor deteriorate at this point and that no further surgical procedures were required …
09-02-2000 - Leafs’ Rookie Tournament – Game 1
The Maple Leafs’ Y2K prospect team and their counterparts representing the Carolina Hurricanes experienced great difficulty in creating any sustained flow at the tournament’s opening game in Kitchener last night. In fairness, it may just have been the hottest evening of the entire summer which made for a hot foggy building, soft ice and a puck that bounced wildly all night long.
08-31-2000 - Back to the Future 1: The Leafs’ Rookie Camp Preview
After years of believing it to be a contradiction in terms to mention the Toronto Maple Leafs and prospects in the same sentence things are beginning to change. Gone is the Harold “Draft ‘em, pay ‘em, play ‘em” Ballard era in which so many promising youngsters washed out after being thrown to the wolves.

08-15-2000 - Whatever happened to Jared Hope?
I know that most of you are saying - Jared who? Unless you follow the Western Hockey League, you probably don’t know much about him. Jared Hope was the Leafs final draft choice (230th overall) in the 1996 Draft. Jared had played that season with the Spokane Chiefs and suffered two serious head injuries.
