RISING

Zach Boychuk - Lethbridge Hurricanes

Position: C Height: 5.09.5 Weight: 184
A tremendously gifted player. His offensive skills are very good and in the upper end of his age group. Started off the season with high expectations and did not disappoint. Has been the best player or one of the best on his team during the Hurricanes 12-game unbeaten streak. Has the reputation of possibly being the most in shape player in the WHL. Has represented Canada at both the Under-18 World Championships and as well as the Russia Canada Jr. Summit Series. Has the ability to single handedly turn a game around with his tremendous stick handling ability. Has above average speed and tremendous first three strides. Has an extremely high hockey IQ.

Greg Nemisz - Windsor Spitfires
Position: C Height: 6.03 Weight: 201
Watching him play twice in 48 hours gave us an appreciation for the upside of this young man. He is very good down low on the cycle, as he is able to fend off the check and create space for finding a passing lane. He moves well and is tough to stop when he gets moving. He may not beat you with his puck skills, but when he drives the net, he makes it difficult on opposing teams. As he gets more comfortable with his size, and gets stronger physically, he is going to make teams pay. Works hard and does not shy away from taking care of his defensive responsibilities.

A.J. Jenks - Plymouth Whalers
Position: LW Height: 6.01 Weight: 210
Plays with a lot of emotion, yet is under control and always thinking ahead. Drives to the net hard and with his size is tough for even good defenders to control. He goes up and down the wing hard and plays very well at both ends of the ice. More of a scorer than playmaker, but he has the tools and smarts to be a very complete player.

Mitch Wahl -- Spokane Chiefs
Position: C Height: 5.11 Weight: 190
Wahl is in his second year with the Spokane Chiefs and has really come into his own. Has just been left off the USA roster for the World Juniors, which is a bit of a surprise, but only being 17 he should have an opportunity to play for the USA in the future.

Mikkel Boedker - Kitchener Rangers
Position: LW Height: 5.11 Weight: 196
The best player on the ice on the night we last saw him, at least from the perspective of skill, ability, play making. This young man reminds us of Alexander Mogilny-- explosive stride, excellent puck skills, great vision to find the open seam and make plays. He can play the point on the PP and is able to create opportunity as well as be patient under pressure.

Tomi Karhunen - Sarnia Sting

Position: G Height: 5.10.5 Weight: 166
A good pick up for Sarnia in the Import Draft. Only going to get better as his fundamentals are sound. Smothers loose pucks and is calm when there are crowds in front of him. Faces a lot of shots every game and makes some difficult saves look easy.

Jacob Lagace - Chicoutimi Sagueneens

Position: C Height: 5.11 Weight: 195
Speedy playmaking center; a good skater, nice edge work, stops and starts... has some puck skills, sees ice well has quick hands and accelerates with puck. Chicoutimi's 3rd rd pick, 54th overall in 2007 QMJHL draft.

Sam Klassen - Saskatoon Blades
Position: LD Height: 6.01 Weight: 192
A late bloomer who plays both ends of the ice very well. Has impressed ISS scouts with his play. Developing into a very good two-way defenseman. Currently the Saskatoon Blades top pairing and plays against the other team's top line on a regular basis.

Ilmari Pitkanen - Jokerit Helsinki B

Position: LW Height: 6.00 Weight: 190
Draft Sleeper! Assistant captain as an underage. Showed excellent playmaking ability and is very strong on the puck, supports well in the offensive zone. Great strength from the corner. A talented yet unpolished prospect.

FALLING

Derek Famulare - Chicoutimi Sagueneens
Position: LW Height: 6.02 Weight: 180
Big thick kid, skating looks better than before. Keeps feet moving, needs to do this to be effective. Up and down winger... still not sold on skating for next level. Hard-working kid.

Jani-Petteri Helenius - Jokerit Helsinki B

Position: C Height: 6.00 Weight: 195
Takes too much time on shots for them to be effective. Limited offensive upside. Is a good faceoff man, ties up very well. Good communication shouts and bangs stick when open. Struggles with the hard passes, lacks hands. Has potential to be a good two-way forward.

Dalton Prout - Sarnia Sting

Position: RD Height: 6.02 Weight: 210
Still trying to figure out where he fits in and how he wants to play. Is a good enough skater but unsure of himself and when to use it. Needs to start making his mark. Sarnia's 2nd rd pick, 21st overall in 2006 OHL draft.

Max Nicastro - Chicago Steel

Position: RD Height: 6.02 Weight: 190
Nicastro needs to work on his spacing and blue line discipline as he gets beat multiple times cheating in. He plays a nice physical game, but needs to work on his lower body strength which will aid his ability to better finish his checks and not lose his balance as often up against the boards.
