Guelph’s McCollum named CHL Player of the Week

On Friday, McCollum made 29 saves and was the first star when he backed the Storm to a 1-0 overtime win over the Windsor Spitfires and then turned aside 26 shots and was the second star in a 3-0 win over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Sunday for his second consecutive shutout and third in his past four starts. The 18-year-old native of Sanborn, New York, improved his season record to 10-9-2-2 with a 2.55 goals against average and .912 save percentage in 24 games. McCollum, the OHL’s top rated goaltender for the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, has allowed just two goals in his past five starts.
Dean Ouellet of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles was the QMJHL nominee after scoring three goals and two assists for five points in two games and Jamie Benn of the Kelowna Rockets was the WHL player of the week after scoring four goals and three assists for seven points in four games.
