Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that John Tavares of the Oshawa Generals is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday January 13 after scoring four goals and adding five assists for nine points in three games.
After helping Canada win the gold medal at the World Junior Championships in the Czech Republic earlier this month, Tavares returned to the Generals and scored two goals and an assist in a 10-4 win over the Ottawa 67’s on Thursday. The 17-year-old native of Oakville, Ontario scored again in a 4-3 win over Ottawa on Friday and finished the week with a goal and four assists in a 10-8 win over the Kingston Frontenacs on Sunday. Tavares is third in the OHL scoring race with 28 goals and 49 assists for 77 points in 33 games this season. It is the third time that Tavares has been recognized as CHL Player of the Week this season.
James Reimer of the Red Deer Rebels was the WHL nominee after posting a 2-1-0-0 record with a 1.31 goals against average and .966 save percentage in three games and Kevin Veilleux of the Rimouski Oceanic was the QMJHL nominee after scoring two goals and adding six assists for eight points in three games.
