BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, January 28, 2008 – Rouyn-Noranda Huskies forward Brett Morrison and St. John’s Fog Devils defenseman T.J. Brennan today were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from January 21 to 27, 2008.
In only two games, the Huskies sniper scored three goals, including a game-winner, and added six assists while recording an astounding +7 rating. Friday, in his first game versus the Halifax Mooseheads, Morrison registered five points in an 11-6 win. The following evening, he scored his 33rd goal of the season and added three helpers as the Huskies defeated the Gatineau Olympiques 6-5 in overtime. With a total of 70 points in 47 games, Morrison sits in third place in the QMJHL scoring standings.
Dean Ouellet (4-2-6) of Cape Breton, Jean-Simon Allard (1-6-7) of St. John’s and Kelsey Tessier (3-2-5) of Quebec were also considered.
The defensive player of the week award goes to Fog Devils blue-liner T.J. Brennan. It is the second time this season that Brennan has received the TELUS defensive player of the week award. In four Fog Devils wins, Brennan collected a game-winning goal and added four assists while recording a +2 rating. The defenseman helped his team defeat the Wildcats (2), the Sea Dogs and the Rocket. Yesterday, he played arguably his best game of the week, registering two assists to go along with six shots on goal in a 4-3 win over the Rocket. With 53 points in 52 games, St. John’s sits in fifth place in the Eastern division standings.
Kevin Desfossés (2-0; 120 MIN; 2.00 GAA; .944 SAV %) of Quebec, Tommy Legault (1-1; 125 MIN; 1.92 GAA; .937 SAV %) of Victoriaville and Marc-André Bourdon (1-5-6; +4) of Rouyn-Noranda were also considered.
