Paquette and Grant win TELUS player of the week awards

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, February 4, 2008 – Lewiston MAINEiacs forward Danick Paquette and Saint John Sea Dogs defenseman Alex Grant today were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from January 28 to February 3.

In two games, the MAINEiacs winger scored four goals on eleven shots and added an assist while recording an impressive +5 rating. On Wednesday, Paquette recorded a hat-trick in an 8-3 win over the Voltigeurs, collecting first star honours. Then, on Friday, he opened the scoring for Lewiston en route to a 3-1 victory over the Sea Dogs. The second-year forward has 26 goals and 10 helpers in 49 games so far this season.

Alexandre Picard-Hooper (5-2-7) of Saint John, François Bouchard (3-3-6) of Baie-Comeau and Michael Dubuc (5-0-5) of Rouyn-Noranda were also considered.

The defensive player of the week award goes to Saint John blue-liner Alex Grant. In four games, Grant registered one goal, three assists and a +6 rating. He arguably played his best game of the week yesterday, versus the Wildcats, collecting three assists in a 6-5 win. Grant has accumulated 13 goals and 22 helpers in 52 games for the Eastern division-leading Sea Dogs.

Pierre-Luc Lessard (0-3-3; +4) of Baie-Comeau, Andrew Bodnarchuk (0-3-3; +3) of Halifax and Nicolas Champion (2-0; 120 MIN; 2.00 GAA; .926 SAV %) of Acadie-Bathurst were also considered.
