The Ontario Hockey League today announced the OHL Performers of the Month for January 2008.
OHL Player of the Month – Brett MacLean, Oshawa Generals
MacLean was the OHL’s top point producer in the month of January, scoring 10 goals and adding 20 assists for 30 points in 14 games. He had at least one point in 13 of 14 games last month, including a five-point effort in a 10-4 win over the Ottawa 67’s on January 10. He also had four point games against Peterborough and Kingston and helped the Generals post a 9-3-1-1 record in January. The 19-year-old from Port Elgin leads the OHL scoring race with 50 goals and 51 assists for 101 points in 45 games. MacLean will represent the Eastern Conference in the OHL All-Star Classic this week in Sault Ste. Marie.
OHL Goaltender of the Month – Mike Murphy, Belleville Bulls
Murphy posted a 9-1-0-0 record with a 1.59 goals against average and .951 save percentage in 10 starts last month. He won eight straight games to start the month helping the Bulls’ equal their franchise record with 12 consecutive wins. Murphy, an Inverary native that turned 19 on January 15, allowed two or fewer goals on eight occasions last month, including a 33-save shutout against the Windsor Spitfires on January 26. He improved his season record to 27-6-2-1 with a league-best 2.24 goals against average and .933 save percentage in 38 games. Murphy was named to the Eastern Conference roster for the OHL All-Star Classic in Sault Ste. Marie this week.
OHL Rookie of the Month – Patrick Maroon, London Knights
Maroon led all first year OHL players with 11 goals and eight assists for 19 points in 11 games last month. The 19-year-old from St. Louis, MO recorded points in nine of 11 games last month, including hat tricks against the Saginaw Spirit and Peterborough Petes. Maroon, a sixth round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL Entry Draft last summer, is sixth in the OHL scoring race with 31 goals and 42 assists for 73 points in 46 games. He posted a plus-11 plus-minus rating last month and will represent the Western Conference in the OHL All-Star Classic.
OHL Defenceman of the Month – Zach Bogosian, Peterborough Petes
Bogosian was named OHL defenceman of the month after scoring five goals and 14 assists for 19 points and posted a plus-11 plus-minus rating in 14 games. The sophomore from Massena, NY helped the Petes to an 8-5-0-1 record in 14 games. Bogosian was rated third among North American skaters in the mid-term rankings for this summer’s NHL Entry Draft. The 17-year-old is tied for his team’s scoring lead with 10 goals and 40 assists for 50 points in 45 games this season. Bogosian scored a goal in the Home Hardware CHL-NHL Top prospects Game last month in Edmonton and will represent the Eastern Conference in the OHL All-Star Classic in Sault Ste. Marie.
