Portland Winterhawks defenseman Derrick Pouliot's skills lean towards the offensive side of the game, and that is what he has provided to Team Canada so far at the 2014 World Junior Championship. He and his Canadian teammates have moved on to the semi-finals of this tournament by virtue of their 4-1 win over Switzerland on Thursday.
Pouliot contributed to the quarterfinal win, scoring the fourth goal for Canada to help put the disciplined Swiss away for good. Through five games at this WJC, Pouliot has netted that one goal and added four assists while posting a +4 rating.
Pouliot, who is a Pittsburgh Penguins prospect, has turned in a solid season with the WHL's Winterhawks. Through 28 games, he has scored nine goals and chipped in 21 assists for 30 points while registering a +15 rating.
Hockey's Future spoke with Pouliot following the win over Switzerland, a conversation that is captured in this HF video.
