CHL Announces NAPA Draft Prospects of the Month for February

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced the NAPA Draft Prospects of the Month for February 2008.

Each month the Canadian Hockey League & NAPA Auto Parts will recognize the top draft eligible player from each of the three leagues in the CHL for the upcoming 2008 NHL Entry Draft based on their play over the course of the month. Each winner will be recognized at a future home game and will be presented with a NAPA Auto Parts prize pack.

NAPA Draft Prospects of the Month – February 2008

Ontario Hockey League – Steven Stamkos, Sarnia Sting
Stamkos was the top scorer in the Ontario Hockey League during the month of February with 14 goals and 11 assists for 25 points in 14 games. He enjoyed five multiple point games in February, including a six point effort (one goal, six assists) against the Saginaw Spirit on February 3 and a five point effort (four goals, one assist) five days later against the Owen Sound Attack. The 18-year-old from Unionville, Ontario finished the month with a hat trick against the Plymouth Whalers on February 29. Stamkos is seventh in OHL scoring this season with 50 goals and 42 assists for 92 points in 55 games. He was the top rated prospect for the 2008 NHL Entry Draft in the Central Scouting Mid-term Rankings released in January.

Quebec Major Junior Hockey League – Jacob Lagacé, Chicoutimi Sagueneens
Lagacé scored seven goals and 10 assists for a 17 point month in 13 games in February. He enjoyed four multiple point games last month, including a four point effort (two goals, two assists) against the Rimouski Oceanic on February 27. The 18-year-old from Beloeil, Quebec is second among rookie scorers in the QMJHL this season with 22 goals and 38 assists for 60 points in 64 games. He was rated 34th in the Mid-Term Central Scouting rankings for the 2008 NHL draft.

Western Hockey League – Zach Boychuk, Lethbridge Hurricanes
Boychuk was the WHL’s NAPA Draft Prospect of the Month after scoring 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points to go along with a plus-seven plus-minus rating in 12 games. Boychuk had four multiple point games last month, including four point games against the Kelowna Rockets on February 1, the Kootenay Ice on February 12 and the Saskatoon Blades on February 26. That game also marked his first hat trick of the season. The 18-year-old from Airdrie, Alberta has 30 goals and 33 assists for 63 points in 54 games. He was rated 11th in the Mid-Term Central Scouting rankings for the 2008 NHL draft.
