Perreault, Bernier and Champion earn QMJHL player of the month awards

The offensive player of the month award goes to Mathieu Perreault of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. In seven games, Perreault registered four goals, including two shorthanded markers, as well as twelve assists to secure the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League scoring title with 114 points. He helped the Titan end the season on a six-game winning streak. Acadie-Bathurst will battle the St. John’s Fog Devils in the first round of the playoffs.
Claude Giroux of Gatineau, Garrett Peters of Drummondville and Ryan Hillier of Halifax were also considered.
On the defensive side, the award goes to Lewiston MAINEiacs backstop Jonathan Bernier. In six starts, Bernier posted a 4-1-1 record with a 1.49 goals-against-average and .951 save percentage while facing an average of 30 shots per game. He finished second behind only Bobby Nadeau of Chicoutimi for the coveted Jacques-Plante Trophy which is awarded to the goaltender who completed the season with the League’s best goals-against-average.
Maxime Renaud of Acadie-Bathurst, Maxim Gougeon of Rouyn-Noranda and Alexandre Néron of Rimouski were also in the running.
Among League rookies, goaltender Nicolas Champion of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan was the unanimous selection. Champion posted a 6-0-1 record in seven starts with a 2.83 goals-against-average and .912 save percentage while facing an average of 32 shots per contest. The 17-year-old Labrador native closed out the season with a 2.96 goals-against-average.
Mike Hoffman, Charles Landry and Philippe Lefebvre – all Drummondville Voltigeurs - also warranted consideration.
