Ice’s Sylvester named BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week

CALGARY, AB. – The BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week is forward Dustin Sylvester of the Kootenay Ice.

Sylvester picked up five points, scoring one goal and four assists to go with a +1 rating in two games over the last week, helping the Kootenay Ice jump out to a 2-0 series lead over the Medicine Hat Tigers in the 2008 WHL MNP Eastern Conference Quarter-Finals best-of-seven series.

On Friday, March 21st, the Tigers (4) hosted the Kootenay Ice (5) at The Arena in Medicine Hat for game one of the opening round series of the 2008 WHL Playoffs. Sylvester picked up two assists in the game, with the second setting up Andrew Bailey for the game winner, as the Ice defeated the Tigers 5-2.

Game two of the opening round series went the following evening, Saturday, March 22nd, at The Arena in Medicine Hat. Sylvester netted a power play goal and added two assists as the Ice downed the Tigers 4-3 in overtime.

The Kootenay Ice currently have a 2-0 series lead over the Medicine Hat Tigers, with games three and four set in Cranbrook, British Columbia at the Recreation Complex on Tuesday, March 25th and Wednesday, March 26th at 7:00 pm (MST).

Sylvester, a 19 year old from Kelowna, British Columbia, is currently in his third season of play in the Western Hockey League and with the Kootenay Ice.

The WHL has also nominated Chet Pickard of the Tri City Americans for the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week Award.
