Hitmen’s Galiardi named BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week

CALGARY, AB. – The BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week is forward T.J. Galiardi of the Calgary Hitmen.

Galiardi picked up ten points, scoring two goals and eight assists to go with a +7 rating in four playoff games over the last week, helping the Calgary Hitmen win their 2008 WHL MNP Eastern Conference Quarter-Finals best-of-seven series over the Moose Jaw Warriors 4-2.

On Tuesday, March 25th, the Calgary Hitmen’s opening round series shifted back to the Civic Centre in Moose Jaw for games three and four, with the series tied 1-1. In game three Galiardi picked up three assists as the Hitmen downed the Warriors 8-3. The next evening, Wednesday, March 26th, Galiardi netted the game winning goal and added two assists as the Hitmen took a strangle hold on the best of seven series 3-1 with their 3-1 victory. He was also named the games 1st Star.

Game five of the opening round series was on Friday, March 28th back at the Pengrowth Saddledome in Calgary. Galiardi scored a goal and an assist in a losing cause as his Hitmen were defeated by the Warriors 4-2, sending the WHL Eastern Conference Quarter-Final back to Moose Jaw for game six with the Hitmen still holding a 3-2 series advantage.

On Sunday, March 30th, back at the Civic Centre in Moose Jaw, the Warriors hosted Calgary for Game six. Galiardi picked up two assists as the Calgary Hitmen defeated the Warriors 4-2 and advance to the next round of the 2008 WHL Playoffs. He was also named the games 1st Star.

The Calgary Hitmen will now face off against the Swift Current Broncos in the 2008 WHL MNP Eastern Conference Semi-Finals best-of-seven series, starting this Friday, April 4th.

Galiardi, a 19 year old from Calgary, Alberta, is in his first year of play in the Western Hockey League with the Calgary Hitmen. He spent last season playing for Dartmouth College before choosing the WHL has his best development option. Galiardi was selected in the 2nd round – 55th overall at the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche.

The WHL has also nominated Dustin Tokarski of the Spokane Chiefs for the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week Award.
