MONTREAL, Thursday, April 3, 2008 – The President of the 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup selection committee, Bernard Lord, officially announced today at a press conference held at the Hyatt-Regency Hotel in downtown Montreal that the Rimouski Océanic have been awarded the opportunity to present the 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup Tournament.

"The selection committee rigorously analyzed each candidacy and made a decision based on the evaluation grid," commented Bernard Lord. "The Rimouski Océanic’s bid had all the elements from top to bottom to convince us that they would present an excellent 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup Tournament: the organizing committee, great installations, a good hockey team, logistics and financing. Moreover, we felt that the whole community was behind the bid. Each organization was well prepared and made very professional presentations. The decision was very hard to make; they could all have won it."

Five organizations were in the race: Chicoutimi, Halifax, Lewiston, Rimouski and Shawinigan. The 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup will be held from May 15 to 23.

The selection committee was comprised of four members: Bernard Lord, Jacques Gauthier, Stéphane Quintal and Camille Thériault.
