Mason named Boston Pizza Player of the Week

The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Kitchener Rangers’ goaltender Steve Mason is the Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday April 6 after allowing two goals in two wins that helped the Rangers to a 2-0 series lead over the Sarnia Sting in their Western Conference semi-final series. Mason had a 0.70 goals against average and .980 save percentage in two games.

Mason started the week with 38 saves in a 3-0 win over Sarnia in the series opener on Friday and then made 62 saves, including 25 in three overtime periods, to back the Rangers to a 3-2 win in Game 2 on Saturday. Mason was the first star in both games.

The 19-year-old native of Oakville is 4-0 with a 1.65 goals against average and .953 save percentage in four playoff games.
