Hurricanes' Zach Boychuk named BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week

CALGARY, AB. - The BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week is forward Zach Boychuk of the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Boychuk picked up four goals and one assist to go with a +4 rating in two playoff games over the last week, helping the Lethbridge Hurricanes jump out to a 2-0 series lead over the Calgary Hitmen in the 2008 WHL MNP Eastern Conference Championship series.

On Thursday, April 17th, at the Pengrowth Saddledome in Calgary, the Hitmen hosted the Lethbridge Hurricanes in game one of the WHL MNP Eastern Conference Championship series. Boychuk netted two goals as the Hurricanes took a 1-0 series lead with a 5-2 victory over the Hitmen.

Game two of the WHL MNP Eastern Conference Championship went the following night, Friday, April 18th, at the Saddledome. Boychuk had another two goal performance and added an assist as the Hurricanes defeated Hitmen 4-3 in over-time. He was also named the games 2nd Star.

With the Lethbridge Hurricanes holding a 2-0 series advantage, the WHL MNP Eastern Conference Championship now shifts to the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge for games three and four on Tuesday, April 22nd and Wednesday, April 23rd at 7:00 pm (MST).

Boychuk, an 18 year old from Airdrie, Alberta is currently in his third season of play in the Western Hockey League and with the Lethbridge Hurricanes. He also is a highly touted NHL top prospect for the upcoming 2008 NHL Entry Draft to be held this June in Ottawa, Ontario.

The WHL has also nominated Chet Pickard of the Tri-City Americans for the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week Award. Pickard posted a 1-0-1 record this past week, allowing just one goal on 82 shots faced for a 0.360 goals-against average and an unprecedented 0.988 save percentage versus the Spokane Chiefs in the WHL Kal Tire Western Conference Championship series.
