Hurricanes’ Carter Bancks named BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week

CALGARY, AB. – The BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week is forward Carter Bancks of the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Bancks netted four goals to go with a +4 rating in two playoff games over the last week, helping the Lethbridge Hurricanes win the 2008 WHL MNP Eastern Conference Championship series over the Calgary Hitmen 4-0.

On Tuesday, April 22nd, at the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge, the Hurricanes hosted the Calgary Hitmen in game three of the WHL MNP Eastern Conference Championship, leading the series 2-0. Bancks scored two goals, including the game winner, as the Hurricanes took a 3-0 series lead with a 6-0 victory over the Hitmen. He was also named the games 1st Star.

Game four of the WHL MNP Eastern Conference Championship went the following night, Wednesday, April 23rd, at the Enmax Centre. Bancks had another two goal performance as the Hurricanes defeated Hitmen 4-2 and advance to the WHL Championship series.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes will now face off against either the Spokane Chiefs or Tri-City Americans in the WHL Championship series. The Chiefs and Americans are still battling in the WHL Kal Tire Western Conference Championship series, the Chiefs hold a 3-2 series edge with game six set for tonight at 7:00 pm (PST) in Spokane.

Bancks, an 18 year old from Marysville, British Columbia, is currently in his second full season of play in the Western Hockey League and with the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

The WHL has also nominated Juha Metsola of the Lethbridge Hurricanes for the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week Award. Metsola posted a 2-0 record this past week with one shut-out, stopping 48 of the 50 shots he faced for a 1.000 goals-against average and a 0.960 save percentage.
