It didn't take long for a surprise win to take place at the 2014 U18 World Championship as Switzerland knocked off the USA, 4-2, in the opening game of the tournament.
Team USA led the game, 2-1, after the first period, but the Swiss scored three unanswered goals in the third to come away with the victory. Forward Denis Malgin was the scoring star for Switzerland, picking up two goals including the game-winner with 3:30 left in the game.
Although he did not get his name on the scoresheet, defenseman Simon Kindschi nevertheless played an important role in the win. Kindschi's stock in trade is the defensive side of the game, and he used his 6'3”, 212-pound frame effectively in helping to keep the USA attack at bay.
Kindschi spoke with Hockey's Future following the win, a conversation that was captured in this HF video.
