The U.S. squad is sporting some top talent at the 2014 IIHF U18 World Championship, not only for the 2014 draft year but also for 2015 and 2016. One of the top talents of any of the coming draft years competing for the U.S. is defenseman Noah Hanifin.

Hanifin has performed as a top prospect would be expected to at this U18, as he is among the top scoring defensemen at this tournament.  After four preliminary games and one playoff contest, Hanifin has scored one goal and chipped in three assists for four points while posting a +3 rating.

During the 2013-14 season, Hanifin competed in his first season with the U.S. National Team Development Program (NTDP). In 31 USHL games, he scored six goals and 14 assists for 20 points. Hanifin also competed at the 2014 World U17 Hockey Challenge where he captained the U.S. squad. He is currently considered a top prospect for the 2015 NHL Draft.

Hanifin spoke with Hockey's Future at the U18, a conversation that is captured in this HF video.
