Craig Smith Waterloo Black Hawks

The Black Hawks had a game postponed last week, but Smith made the most of the one he did play. Smith scored twice and assisted on two more goals as Waterloo routed division-leading Indiana 10-3 on Saturday. Smith has back-to-back four-point games to his credit and is now third in the USHL in scoring. He was a league-high +5 in the game and had six shots on goal. He also had 14 PIM in the game.

CCM Defensive Player of the Week
Paul Phillips Cedar Rapids RoughRiders
College: Denver
NHL: Undrafted
Cedar Rapids only hit the ice once last week after having a pair of their games postponed, but they won their only game, 7-1 over Des Moines on Friday. Phillips scored the game-winning goal early in the second period. He added two assists, including one on the power play, before the period was done. He was +1 last week and had two shots on goal.

Stauber’s Goaltender of the Week
Steve Thompson Sioux City Musketeers
College: Colorado College
NHL: Undrafted
Thompson helped the Musketeers gain a split on the road last weekend. On Friday, he stopped 37 shots in regulation and overtime and was a perfect four-for-four in the shootout as Sioux City beat Green Bay 2-1. On Saturday, he made 36 saves in a 3-2 loss to the Gamblers. He went 1-1-0 on the week with a 1.93 goals against average and a .948 save percentage.
