Pittsburgh chose the Kamloops, B.C., native in the third round of the 2007 NHL draft, but the two sides were unable to agree to a deal quickly. Under the NHL’s collective bargaining agreement, Pierro-Zabotel would have become an unrestricted free agent had the Penguins not signed him before this year’s draft, which will be held June 26 – 27 in Montreal.
PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins signed forward Casey Pierro-Zabotel to a three-year entry-level contract on Tuesday.
Pierro-Zabotel will report to the American Hockey League’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, who are currently in the East Division final against Hershey. Pierro-Zabotel led the Western Hockey League this season with 36 goals and 79 assists for 115 points, and had a plus-62 rating while helping the Vancouver Giants to an appearance in the WHL‘s Western Conference final.
