Olympiques’ Maxime Clermont Named CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Maxime Clermont of the Gatineau Olympiques is the CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending September 20.  In two starts Clermont earned two wins with one shutout while posting a goals-against-average of 1.00 with a save percentage of .964.

Clermont continued his strong start to the 2009-10 QMJHL season for the Olympiques who remain undefeated with a 4-0 record.  Clermont made 30 saves on the road Friday night in a 3-2 win over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies where he was named second star of the game.  One night later on Saturday, Clermont was perfect in shutting out the Val d’Or Foreurs with 23 saves in the 3-0 win to earn his fourth consecutive road win of the season.

Clermont, a 17-year-old from Montreal, QC, is in his third season with the Olympiques.  Last season he finished with a 25-20 record with one shutout and a 3.22 goals-against-average and a .884 save percentage.  He is eligible for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Also nominated was Jason Missiaen of the OHL’s Peterborough Petes who was considered after winning his first two starts of the season with a 1.50 goals-against-average and a .958 save percentage.  Ian Curtis of the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks was also considered following a third star performance in earning his first career shutout with 24 saves to beat the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-0 on Saturday.
