Spitfires’ Troy Passingham Named CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Troy Passingham of the Windsor Spitfires is the CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending October 18.  In three starts Passingham earned three wins including two shutout victories with a goals-against-average of 1.67 and a save percentage of .938.

Passingham currently leads the OHL with three shutouts and backstopped the Spitfires to two of them this past week, the first of which came on Monday afternoon making 28 saves in a 7-0 win over the Sudbury Wolves.  His second shutout of the week came Saturday night but not before a 19 save effort Thursday in an 8-5 win over the Ottawa 67’s.  His 29 saves on Saturday earned the Spitfires a 4-0 win over West Division rivals the Plymouth Whalers.  He was also named the game’s third star.

Passingham, an 18-year-old from Mississauga, ON, is playing in his first OHL season with the Spitfires.  He has a record of 8-2-0-1 with a goals-against-average of 2.33 and save percentage of .918.  The Spitfires, winners of three straight games, currently hold top spot in the OHL with 19 points in 13 games.

Philippe Tremblay of the Rimouski Océanic was also considered this week for posting a 2-0-0-0 record with one shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and a save percentage of .963.  Lucas Gore of the Chilliwack Bruins was the WHL nominee with a .970 goals-against-average and a .968 save percentage following a week where he went 1-0-1-0 including a shutout win Tuesday as first star in a 1-0 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes where he made 31 saves.
