1999 AHL All Star Game

The 1999 AHL All Star Game will have the skills competion on January 24
and on January 25 the all-star game will be played. The game will be held
in the First Union Center in Philadelphia, home of the NHL Flyers. The
rosters are pretty even and the game will be pretty good. The rosters are as

Canada has a young team with many future superstars. In goal they have
Martin Biron starting. Biron had a tremendous first half of the year playing
for Rochester with a 17-9-2 record and a 2.07 Goals Against Average. The
starting forwards for Canada are Jeff Williams, Shane Willis, and Jim
Montgomery. Jim Montgomery had a good year so far with 47 points including
16 goals. Jeff Williams had 38 points and 24 goals. And the last part of
the starting forward line is Shane Willis from the Beast of New Haven. He
had 48 points with 20 goals. On defense Dan Boyle is starting. He is
currently 3rd on Kentucky in points. His defensive partner is Brad Tiley.
Tiley is currently second amongst defencemen in scoring with 9 goals.
The team captain for Canada will be Peter White and will be coached by Bill
Barber of the Philadelphia Phantoms and will be assisted by Mike Stothers of
Philadelphia Phantoms.
For Planet USA Jean-Marc Pelletier will be their starting goalie. HE
had a strong first half with 16-10-1 record and a 2.61 GAA. Starting at
forward is Landon Wilson. Wilson is currently second in the AHL in goals
scored having posted 19 through the first 31 games. Also starting at
forward is Herbert Vasiljevs and Richard Park. Park ranks tenth in the AHL
in scoring having posted 36 points (17-19) in 31 games. Vasiljevs has been
one of the leading goal scorers in the AHL over the past two seasons. At
defense are Francis Bouillon and Rich Brennan. Brennan is appearing in his
third all-star game, but this will be his first time as a starter. While
his defensive partner Bouillon has less experience with this being his first
all-star game. The team captain for Planet USA will be Ken Gernander and
will be coached by John Cunniff of the Albany River Rats and will be
assisted by Dennis Gendron of the Albany River Rats.
The AHL also announced on December 24 that the games official beer would
be Bud Light. Andy Goeler, Director of Bud Light & Bud Ice Marketing was
quoted for saying “Bud Light is proud to become the ‘Official Beer’ of the
1999 First Union AHL All-Star Classic.”
The IcePro AHL All-Star Skills Competition will take place January 24 at
7:00 p.m. with the All-Star Game to be held January 25 at 8:00 p.m. The
Skills Competition will be televised live on Comcast SportsNet and other
regional sports networks around the United States and TSN in Canada. The AHL
All-Star Game will be televised live on ESPN2 in the United States and on
TSN and RDS in Canada.
