Petes’ Ryan Spooner Named Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week

By League Press Release

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that forward Ryan Spooner of the Peterborough Petes is the Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 29.  Spooner scored eight points in three games with two goals and six assists and a plus-minus rating of plus-2.

Spooner’s week was highlighted by two four-point games where he was recognized with first star of the game honours in both contests.  His first game was played Thursday night where he recorded four assists in a 6-3 win over the Sarnia Sting.  His top performance was played in Saginaw on Saturday night where he scored his 11th and 12th goals of the season adding two assists in the 6-5 win over the Spirit.  This game would mark his third four-point game of the season.  Spooner and the Petes fell short Friday night against the Windsor Spitfires in their only other game this week.  Although he was held off the scoreboard Spooner did capitalize with a shootout marker despite the 3-2 shootout loss.

Spooner, a 17-year-old from Kanata, ON, is playing in his second OHL season with the Petes.  He is currently ranked 11th in league scoring with 12 goals and 25 assists for 37 points in 29 games.  The Petes’ fifth overall pick in the 2008 OHL Priority Selection is eligible for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Also considered was last week’s award winner and 2010 NHL Entry Draft prospect Tyler Toffoli of the Ottawa 67’s who scored five goals and three assists for eight points in three games.  Anthony Luciani scored four goals and two assists for six points to help lead the Erie Otters to three straight wins this week.  In goal, Mavric Parks of the Kitchener Rangers won two games posting a goals-against-average of 1.00 with a .971 save percentage in two starts.
