Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that forward Alain Berger of the Oshawa Generals is the Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week for the week ending December 13. In three games Berger scored four goals and three assists for seven points with a plus-minus rating of plus-5.
Berger recorded points in each of the three Generals’ wins on the week and is currently riding a seven-game scoring streak to match Oshawa’s current seven-game winning streak. His week began Thursday night with two assists in a 5-4 overtime win over the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors. He played his best game of the week on Friday night when he scored three goals for his first career hat-trick and added an assist on the game-winner at 4:13 of the third period as first star of a 5-2 win over the Kingston Frontenacs. On Sunday he scored the game-tying goal on the power play at 10:28 of the third period before the Generals would grab the win 4-3 in a shootout over the Brampton Battalion.
Berger, an 18-year-old from Burgsdorf, Switzerland, is playing in his first OHL season with the Generals after being selected 27th overall in the 2009 CHL Import Draft. The 6’4 forward has 15 goals and 12 assists for 27 points in 32 games this season.
Also considered for the award this week was AJ Jenks of the Plymouth Whalers and Jordan Nolan of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Jenks had two goals and six assists for eight points in three games with Nolan scoring four goals and two assists for six points in three games. In two starts in goal, Chris Carrozzi of the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors earned a shutout and posted a goals-against-average of.960 and a save percentage of .972.
