Remparts’ Mikhail Stefanovich Named CHL Player of the Week

By League Press Release

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Mikhail Stefanovich of the Quebec Remparts is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 31.  Stefanovich scored six goals with five assists for 11 points in three games with an impressive plus-minus rating of plus-7.

The Remparts won all three of their games with Stefanovich leading the way with two five-point games beginning last Wednesday night with four goals and one assist as second star of a 10-4 win over the Rimouski Oceanic.  His four goals tied a franchise record for goals scored on the road.  He would match his five-point output Sunday against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies with a goal and four assists as second star of the 7-5 win.  He also scored the opening goal of a 3-1 win over the Halifax Mooseheads on Friday.

Stefanovich, a 20-year-old from Minsk, Belarus, is playing in his third QMJHL season with the Remparts.  Selected in the fourth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs, Stefanovich has 51 points in 38 games this season including 18 goals and 33 assists.

Also considered this week was defenceman Tyson Barrie for scoring four goals and four assists for eight points to lead the Kelowna Rockets to four wins on the week.  Two-time winner Taylor Hall of the Windsor Spitfires had two four-point games and finished his week with four goals and five assists for nine points in three wins.
