On a night where two other AHL call-ups netted their first NHL goals, Tampa Bay Lightning rookie defenseman Nikita Nesterov completed the first goal “hat trick” with his marker against the Los Angeles Kings in a game won by the surging Kings, 3-2.

Midway through the first period of scoreless game, Lightning forward Ondrej Palat carried the puck into the Kings zone and stickhandled his way in close for shot on Kings’ goaltender Joanthan Quick. Quick turned that shot aside with his right pad, sending the rebound into the slot where Nesterov was ready to pounce.

Nesterov was a fifth round pick for the Lightning at the 2011 NHL Draft. He is competing in his second pro season in North America, with the majority of that time being spent with the Lightning’s AHL farm team, the Syracuse Crunch. The Chelyabinsk, Russia received his first call-up to the NHL back on 12/31, appearing in 13 games for the NHL team since getting that call.
