Hitmen’s Foucault named Boston Pizza WHL Player of the Week

CALGARY, AB. – The BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week is forward Kris Foucault of the Calgary Hitmen.
 
Foucault picked up six points, scoring three goals and three assists to go with a +4 rating in four games over the last week, helping the Calgary Hitmen win their 2010 Husky WHL Eastern Conference Semi-Final best-of-seven series over the Medicine Hat Tigers 4-2.
 
With the Hitmen leading the Eastern Conference Semi-Final 2-0, the series shifted back to Medicine Hat for game three, Tuesday, April 6th, and saw the Tigers down the Hitmen 4-3 in over-time.  On Wednesday, April 7th, at the Arena in Medicine Hat, Foucault scored one goal, one assist and was named the games 1st Star as the Hitmen bounced back with a 4-1 win.  Game five of the best-of-seven was back at the Saddledome in Calgary on Friday, April 9thFoucault picked up two assists and was named the games 3rd Star in the Hitmen’s 5-4 loss.  The Hitmen had a second opportunity to close out the series Sunday, April 11th, in Medicine Hat.  Foucault scored the game tying goal with 2:07 left in regulation, then scored the series winning goal in the first extra frame advancing the Hitmen to the next round in the 2010 WHL Playoffs.

With the Hitmen advancing to the 2010 Husky Eastern Conference Championship for the fourth straight season, they will now face the winner between the Brandon Wheat Kings and Saskatoon Blades.  For ticket information visit www.whl.ca/tickets.
 
Foucault, a 19 year old from Calgary, Alberta, is currently playing his second season with the Calgary Hitmen.  The 2009 4th round draft pick of the Minnesota Wild, was originally selected in the 5th round of the 2005 WHL Bantam Draft by the Swift Current Broncos.  He has gone onto appear in 130 WHL games thus far; scoring 31 goals and 32 assists for 63 points.
 
The WHL has also nominated Drew Owsley of the Tri-City Americans for the CHL Goaltender of the Week Award.  Owsley posted a 3-0-0-0 record this past week with one shut-out, stopping 100 of 105 shots faced for a 1.620 goals-against average and 0.952 save percentage.  Owsley, a native of Lethbridge, Alberta, finished the regular season 5th among WHL goaltenders with a 2.51 GAA and posted a 33-11-1-1 record.
