Team Finland has had a successful start to the 2015 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship taking place in Zug and Lucerne, Switzerland. The Finns have won their first three games of the tournament, and are currently tied with Canada for the top spot in Group B. The two countries will square off Tuesday to determine which one will enter the playoff round as that group’s top squad.
The main cog in the Finnish offense at the U18 has been diminutive defenseman, Vili Saarijarvi. Saarijarvi, who played for the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL in the 2014-15 season, is currently tied for the lead in tournament scoring with eight points (3G, 5A) in Finland’s three games. That total includes two 3-point games, in the opener versus the Czech Republic, and in their most recent game against Latvia.
