Team USA won three of their four games in the preliminary round of the 2015 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship, but it wasn’t enough to land the top spot in Group A as Russia went undefeated in preliminary round action. As a result, the U.S. will head to a quarter-final matchup against the Czech Republic.

This year’s U18 squad from the U.S. is almost completely made up of players from the U17 and U18 programs from the U.S. NTDP. One of the more effective defenders from this program at the U18 tournament has been Casey Fitzgerald, the brother of Boston Bruins prospect Ryan Fitzgerald and son of former NHL forward Tom Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald produced a goal and two assists along with a +6 rating in the USA’s four preliminary round games in Switzerland.

Fitzgerald is eligible for the 2015 NHL Draft. He is ranked 148th in NHL Central Scouting’s final draft rankings after having been ranked 102nd in their midterm list.

Following the USA’s win over Slovakia, Fitzgerald spoke with Hockey’s Future for this HF video.
