Ryan Strome named OHL Player of the Week

By League Press Release

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that forward Ryan Strome of the Niagara IceDogs is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending December 5.  Strome scored five goals and picked up three assists for eight points in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-3.

Strome produced three multi-point games in three days for the IceDogs beginning Thursday night in Windsor as third star of a 5-3 win over the Spitfires.  He picked up three points scoring two goals including the game-winner with less than two minutes to play in regulation before adding an empty-net goal with 40 seconds left to provide the IceDogs some insurance on the way to their first victory in Windsor since the club moved to Niagara in 2007.  Strome duplicated his efforts on Friday night in Sarnia with another two goals and one assist as third star despite a 6-5 loss to the Sting.  His week wrapped up Saturday at home with a goal and an assist as second star of a 3-1 win over the Kitchener Rangers.

Strome, a 17-year-old from Mississauga, ON, is tied for sixth in league scoring with 44 points in 28 games in just his second OHL season.  Eligible for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Strome was the fourth ranked OHL skater by NHL Central Scouting in their Preliminary Draft Rankings.

Fellow 2011 NHL Entry Draft prospect Shane Prince of the Ottawa 67’s was considered for the award after also scoring eight points in three games with five goals and three assists.  Brett Thompson of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds was close behind with seven points in three games scoring four times and adding three assists.  In goal, Ramis Sadikov of the Erie Otters posted a goals-against-average of 1.44 and save percentage of .955 while earning one win and suffering one shootout loss in two starts.
