With two losses in their first two games, Team USA has had an Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament to forget so far. The U.S. squad has been outscored 10-3 in their two contests, with five power play goals against included in their goals-against total.

Penalties have certainly been a problem for the U.S. to this point of the tournament as the Americans have totaled 76 penalty minutes in two games. That total includes four 10-minute misconduct penalties, an obvious sign of frustration from the players over the way their tournament has unfolded so far.

This year’s USA team does not feature any players directly from the U.S. NTDP program, but instead is a collection of USHL, CHL, OJHL, NAHL, and high school players. One of the CHL players is defenseman Ben Gleason, who spent the 2014-15 season with the London Knights of the OHL. The 5’11”, 160-pound defender has registered an assist so far at this Ivan Hlinka.

Gleason spoke with Hockey’s Future following the loss to Russia, with his comments being featured in this HF video.
