Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Olivier Roy of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending February 21. Roy becomes the second straight goaltender from Canada’s National Junior Team to win this award after posting a 3-0-0-0 record including one shutout with a goals-against-average of 1.30 and save percentage of .957.
Roy made 30 saves to record his third shutout of the season as second star of a 3-0 win over the Shawinigan Cataractes on Sunday. The shutout was the 14th of his career which is one shy of the QMJHL record of 15 currently held by Ryan Mior. Roy also made 28 saves on Friday as part of a 7-1 win over the Victoriaville Tigres after kicking aside 30 shots and denying all three shootout attempts to beat the Val d’Or Foreurs 4-3 on Wednesday.
Roy, a 19-year-old from Causapscal, Quebec, is playing in his fourth QMJHL season. A fifth round selection of the Edmonton Oilers in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Roy has a 24-12-1-0 record with a 2.78 goals-against-average and .911 save percentage with the Titan this season.
Also considered for the award was Peter Di Salvo of the Oshawa Generals who won three games with a goals-against-average of 1.95 and save percentage of .941. Michael Snider of the Calgary Hitmen won twice in two starts with a goals-against-average of 0.96 and save percentage of .971.
