JP Anderson Named OHL Player of the Week

By League Press Release

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that goaltender JP Anderson of the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending March 6.  Anderson is the second goalie to win the award this season after winning three games including two shutout victories with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .960.

Anderson picked up his league-best sixth shutout and 35th win of the season on Sunday afternoon in a 4-0 win over the Sudbury Wolves.  He made 29 saves and was named third star of the game.  One day earlier he matched a season-high with 37 saves including 16 in the third period to hold off the Oshawa Generals by a score of 4-3 on Saturday night.  His week began with a shutout performance on Friday in a 5-0 win over the London Knights.

Anderson, an 18-year-old from Toronto, ON, is playing in his third OHL season with the Majors.  A San Jose Sharks prospect, Anderson signed with the club as a Free Agent earlier this season.  He leads the OHL with a 2.41 goals-against-average and has a .909 save percentage in 48 games this season.

Also considered for the award this week was David Pacan of the Niagara IceDogs and Mike Cazzola of the Erie Otters.  Pacan led the league with nine points in three games including three goals and six assists and highlighted by a six-point game as first star of a 10-3 win over the Sarnia Sting on Saturday.  Cazzola picked up eight points in three games with four goals and four assists including a four-point game on Friday as first star of a 5-4 shootout win over the Guelph Storm.
