Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Joel Vienneau of the Sudbury Wolves is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending December 4 after posting a 2-0-0-0 record with a shutout victory and a goals-against-average of 0.50 and save percentage of .983.
Vienneau posted two first star performances for the Wolves this past week beginning with a 33-save effort on Tuesday night in a 2-1 overtime win over northern rivals the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Then on Friday night he earned his first career OHL shutout making 24 saves to blank the Central Division leading Brampton Battalion by a 4-0 score.
Vienneau, a 19-year-old from Hearst, ON, is playing in his first OHL season. He has made just five starts for the Wolves so far this season winning each of the last four and carrying an overall goals-against-average of 2.24 and save percentage of .921.
Also considered for the award this week was Francois Brassard of the Quebec Remparts who won two games with a goals-against-average of 0.98 and save percentage of .969, while Liam Liston was first star in a 38-save shutout performance for the Lethbridge Hurricanes in a 1-0 win over the Spokane Chiefs on Sunday.
