Video: 2011 NHLPA Rookie Showcase – Jake Gardiner, Toronto Maple Leafs

By HF Staff

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake Gardiner has experienced a quick indoctrination into the NHL since turning pro earlier this year.

Following the completion of his college career at the University of Wisconsin, Gardiner signed a contract with the Maple Leafs and embarked on his pro career.  Gardiner finished up the season with the Leafs AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, where he made a positive impression on the Leafs’ brass.

Gardiner was originally drafted by the Anaheim Ducks, at the 2008 NHL Draft.  The NHL GM that drafted him, Brian Burke, is the GM that also acquired Gardiner in the deal that brought the defenseman and Joffrey Lupul to the Leafs.  The move looks like an astute one for Burke as both Gardiner and Lupul have been making contributions to a suprising Leafs squad this season.

Gardiner was one of several NHL prospects to take part in the NHLPA’s Rookie Showcase that was held in Toronto, Ontario in August.  Gardiner sat down for a video interview with the NHLPA, which is featured below.
