Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Andrew Agozzino of the Niagara IceDogs is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending December 18 after recording seven points in two games scoring two goals and five assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-4.
Agozzino led the IceDogs to a pair of wins to end the first half of the OHL season tied for third place in the Eastern Conference Standings with 41 points. On Thursday night Agozzino had the best offensive game of his OHL career with five points including two goals and three assists as first star of a 7-0 win over the Erie Otters. The IceDogs’ captain also picked up two assists on Saturday including the set-up of Brock Beukeboom’s first goal as an IceDog which held as the game-winner in the 3-1 victory over the Sudbury Wolves.
Agozzino, a 20-year-old from Kleinburg, ON, is playing in his fifth OHL season with the IceDogs. He has scored 258 points in 285 career OHL games including 40 points with 17 goals and 23 assists in 34 games this season.
Also considered for the award this week was Charles Sarault of the Sarnia Sting and Nick Cousins of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Both players picked up six points in three games with Sarault scoring one goal and five assists, and Cousins netting two goals and four assists. In goal, Christopher Festarini of the Niagara IceDogs won two games including a shutout victory posting a goals-against-average of 0.50 with a save percentage of .983.
