Habs’ Junior Prospects Update (October 1st )

Marc-Andre Thinel -F (Drafted-99(5/145))

The 5’11”, 170 Lbs. Thinel has played 6 games with the Victoriaville Tigres of the QMJHL. He has 3 goals and 7 assists, including three consecutive 3-point games. He is +1, with 8 penalty minutes. Two of his goals were scored on the powerplay, while 1 was scored short-handed.

Jerome Marois -LW (Drafted-99(9/253))

An off-season trade brought the 6’0″, 190 Lbs. Marois from Cape Breton to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. Marois must feel comfortable with his new team, as he has started the season well above his pace of a year ago. Through 7 games he has 5 goals and 7 assists, and he currently sits in 6th place among QMJHL scorers. He is +7, with 4 penalty minutes, and he has scored 2 short-handed goals.

Dusty Jamieson -LW (Drafted-99(5/136))

The 6’2″, 185 Lbs. Jamieson’s NHL training camp was cut short by a concussion he suffered during the Prospect Tournament in Hull. He did however, return to the ice in time for the Sarnia Sting’s season opener. Through 3 games Jamieson has 2 assists. He is +2, with no penalty minutes.

Alexander Buturlin -RW (Drafted-99(2/39))

The 6’0″, 187 Lbs. Buturlin is coming off his first season in North America. Look for him to have a break-out season. Through 3 games he has 2 goals and 1 assist. He is a strong +3, and both his goals were scored at even-strength.

Sean Dixon -D (Drafted-99(6/167))

The 6’3″, 190 Lbs. Dixon is a stay-at-home defenseman who had a total of 18 points last season. He has yet to register a point this season. He is currently +1, with 7 penalty minutes.

Tyler Hanchuk -D (Drafted-00(3/79))

The 6’3″, 210 Lbs. Hanchuk is another tough, stay-at-home defenseman. He had a total of 8 points last season. Through 3 games this season he has 1 assist. His plus/minus is even, and he has 7 minutes in penalties.

Marcel Hossa -C (Drafted-00(1/16))

The 6’1″, 200 Lbs. Hossa was only able to play one pre-season game with the Habs due to a knee injury he suffered while training in Slovakia during the off-season. He did however make it back to Portland in time for the team’s home opener. Through 1 game Hossa has 1 goal and 2 assists. He finished the game at +1, and his goal was scored at even-strength.

Josef Balej -RW (Drafted-00(3/78))

The 5’11”, 171 Lbs. Balej had a very strong training camp in Montreal. Coach Alain Vigneault often went out of his way to praise the youngster’s speed and skill. Like Hossa, Balej was sent back to Portland just in time for the team’s home opener. Through 1 game Balej has 1 goal. He is +1, and his goal was scored on the powerplay.

Christian Larivée -C (Drafted-00(4/114))

The 6’3″, 195 lbs. Larivée had a less than stellar year last season. Through 69 games he had only 8 goals and 15 assists. This season however, he is well above his pace of a year ago. Through 6 games he has 1 goal and 6 assists. He is a disappointing -1, and his lone goal was scored at even-strength.

Petr Chvojka -D (Drafted-00(6/182))

The 6’1″ 188 Lbs. Chvojka was a surprise at training camp. He was able to attend only because he was chosen by the Medicine Hat Tigers in the 2000 CHL Import Draft. Although he is not on the Tigers’ injury list, Chvojka has only played in 1 of the teams’ 3 games. In that game he had 1 assist, and 9 minutes in penalties.

Jonathan Gauthier -D (Drafted-00(9/275))

The 6’2″, 195 Lbs. Gauthier was drafted by Montreal because of his impressive offensive stats last season. In 70 games he had 81 points, including 17 powerplay goals. Through 7 games this season he has 2 goals and 3 assists. He is +4, with an eye-opening 30 minutes in penalties. Both his goals were predictably scored on the powerplay.
