Habs’ Prospects Update

Jason Ward -F (Drafted-97(1/11))

Ward found himself in the AHL after an average training camp. In his first game with Quebec, an 8-2 win over Syracuse, he scored 1 goal and added 4 assists.. He added another assist in a 7-5 win over Hamilton the next night. Overall Ward has 1 goal and 5 assists in 2 games, and is +3.

Mike Ribeiro -C (Drafted-98(2/45))

Ribeiro was also sent down to Quebec near the end of the Habs’ training camp. His lack of speed, along with the need for more playing time were the likely reasons. He was shutout during the Citadelles’ 8-2 opening night win over Syracuse. He rebounded with a goal and an assist in a 7-5 win over Hamilton. Overall Ribeiro has 1 goal and 1 assist and is +2.

Michael Ryder -W (Drafted-98(8/216))

Ryder was expected to spend his season in Quebec. He was shutout in the 8-2 win over Syracuse, and had an assist in the 7-5 win over Hamilton. Overall he has 1 assist and is -1.

Eric Chouinard -F (Drafted-98(1/16))

Chouinard was surprised by his demotion to Quebec. Many felt his natural goal scoring ability would better serve the Canadiens. He scored a goal in the 8-2 win over Syracuse, and had a strong second game as he scored 2 goals and added 2 assists in the 7-5 win over Hamilton. Overall he has 3 goals and 2 assists, and is a strong +5.

Marc-Andre Thinel -F (Drafted-99(5/145))

Thinel played 4 games since our last update. He had a goal and an assist in a 6-5 loss to Montreal; 2 assists in a 5-4 loss to Cape Breton; 2 more assists in a 6-2 win over Halifax, and he scored a goal and added 2 assists in a 3-1 win over Acadie-Bathurst.
Overall the 5’11”, 170 Lbs. Thinel has played 10 games. He has 5 goals and 14 assists, and is currently on a four-game point scoring streak. He is +3, with 12 penalty minutes. Three of his goals were scored on the powerplay, while 1 was scored short-handed.

Jerome Marois -LW (Drafted-99(9/253))

Marois has played 2 games since our last update. He was shutout during a 4-2 loss to Baie Comeau, and he scored 1 goal in a 5-0 win over Montreal.
Overall the 6’0″, 190 Lbs. Marois has played 9 games. He has 6 goals and 7 assists, and currently leads his team in scoring. He is +8, with 12 penalty minutes, and he has scored 3 short-handed goals.

Jonathan Gauthier -D (Drafted-00(9/275))

Gauthier has played 2 games since our last update. He was shutout in a 4-2 loss to Baie Comeau, and he had 2 assists in a 5-0 win over Montreal.
Overall the 6’2″, 195 Lbs. Gauthier has played 9 games. He has 2 goals and 5 assists. He is +7, with an eye-opening 30 minutes in penalties. Both his goals were scored on the powerplay.

Christian Larrivée -C (Drafted-00(4/114))

Larrivée has played 3 games since our last update. He scored 2 goals in a 7-6 loss to Rimouski, and was shutout in a 3-3 tie with Moncton, and a 2-2 tie with Halifax.
Overall the 6’3″, 195 lbs. Larrivée has played 9 games, and has 3 goals and 6 assists. He is a disappointing -2, and 1 of his goals was scored on the powerplay.

Tyler Hanchuk -D (Drafted-00(3/79))

Since our last update Hanchuk has played 3 games. He was shutout in a 7-6 loss to Owen Sound; a 4-3 win over Oshawa, and a 6-4 loss to Barrie.
Overall the 6’3″, 210 Lbs. Hanchuk has played 6 games, and has 1 assist. He is -2, with 11 minutes in penalties.

Alexander Buturlin -RW (Drafted-99(2/39))

Buturlin has played 2 games since our last update. He scored a goal in an 8-3 loss to Sault-Saint. Marie, and was shutout during a 3-1 loss to Sudbury.
Overall the 6’0″, 187 Lbs. has played 5 games, and has 3 goals and 1 assist. He is a strong +3, with 2 minutes in penalties..

Dusty Jamieson -LW (Drafted-99(5/136))

Jamieson has played 2 games since our last update. He was shutout in an 8-3 loss to Sault-Saint Marie, and in a 3-1 loss to Sudbury.
Overall the 6’2″, 185 Lbs. has played 3 games, and has 2 assists. He is -1, with 2 minutes in penalties.

Sean Dixon -D (Drafted-99(6/167))

Dixon has played 2 games since our last update. He was shutout in a 3-3 tie with Oven Sound, and in a 2-1 win over Kitchener.
Overall the 6’3″, 190 Lbs. Dixon has yet to register a point this season. He is currently -1, with 7 penalty minutes.

Petr Chvojka -D (Drafted-00(6/182))

Due to a knee injury Chvojka has only played in 3 of Medicine Hat’s 6 games. Since our last update he was shutout in a 5-4 win over Swift Current, and had an assist in a 4-2 loss to Lethbridge.
Overall the 6’1″ 188 Lbs. Chvojka has played 3 games, and has 2 assists. His plus/minus is even, and he has 17 minutes in penalties.

Marcel Hossa -C (Drafted-00(1/16))

Hossa has played 1 game since our last update. He had 1 goal and 1 assist in a 6-5 loss to Spokane.
Overall the 6’1″, 200 Lbs. Hossa has played in 2 games. He has 2 goal and 3 assists, with 4 minutes in penalties. Both his goals were scored at even-strength.

Josef Balej -RW (Drafted-00(3/78))

Balej has played 1 game since our last update. Like Hossa, he had a goal and an assist in a 6-5 loss to Spokane
Overall the 5’11”, 171 Lbs. Balej has played 2 games. He has 2 goals and 1 assist, with no penalty minutes. Both of his goals were scored on the powerplay.

Hab You Heard?

Vadim Tarasov , the Habs’ 7th round pick in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft has begun his season with Metalburg of the Russian League. After 10 games Tarasov is 7-2-1, with an impressive 1.49 GAA, and an eye-opening .934 save percentage.
-Center/right winger Scott Selig, the Habs’ 6th round pick in last year’s draft played his first ever game at the University level. Playing for Northeastern University, he scored 2 goals and added 2 assists in an 11-0 exhibition win over the University of Toronto.
-Defenseman Chris Dyment, the Habs’ 4th round pick in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft recorded 1 assist in Boston University’s first exhibition game of the season; A 5-3 win over the University of Toronto.
