Kevin Gilmore recently joined the Kings as the assistant
general manager. He will assist GM Dave Taylor in several
areas including but not limited to the following: all
aspects of the hockey operations contract negotiations and
scouting.

According to reports the Kings have lost an estimated $20
million this past season.

Sources close to the Kings maintain that the Kings will not
make any quick decisions but review the entire hockey
operation before making any changes this off-season.

The Kings have reached a new two year affiliation agreement
with an option to extend that agreement with the Lowell
Lock Monsters of the AHL. This agreement will allow the
Kings to assume control of all aspects of Lowell’s hockey
operations and hire the coaching staff. The Kings will
assign 12 prospects to Lowell next season and 18 the
following year. This agreement between the Kings and Lowell
will end the Kings affiliation with Springfield Falcons of
the AHL.

Both the the Kings and the Long Beach Ice Dogs have stated
that its likely they will continue their affiliation at
least one more year. When the agreement is signed sometime
this summer it may increase or decrease the number of
prospects that the Kings will assign to Long Beach.

I am unaware at the present time of the status of the
working agreement between the Kings and Mississippi of the
ECHL.

Whomever the Kings hire as head coach will find that he has
a NHL roster stocked with to many grinders and not enough
skaters at forward. After RW Donald Audette RW Glen Murray
LW Luc Robitaille and C Jozef Stumpel the Kings dont have
any legimate offensive depth at forward. With the injuries
to C Jozef Stumpel and RW Glen Murray the Kings were
desperate for goal scoring for much of the season.

The Kings will be seeking younger players and draft picks
or both when they hold trade talks this summer. They dont
have any untouchable players on the roster but they do have
some players that would be very hard to obtain from them.

The Kings are currently negotiating contracts with the
agents for defensemen Aki Berg and Jere Karalahti.

With the Kings looking for a head coach this offseason
former Buffalo Sabres Ted Nolan sent GM Dave Taylor his
resume. Within the front office its said that he is the
front runner but he hasnt yet won the support of Dave
Taylor or the rest of the hockey department. The problems
between Nolan and managment in Buffalo seemed to be
following him around NHL.
