Rangers Prospect Update

By Brandon LeBourveau

Week Of 12/10 to 12/20

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Pavel Brendl Calgary WHL 26 29 23 52 24 21

This Week: No Games Played
Notes: Will represent the Czech Republic in the upcoming World Junior Championships.

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Jamie Lundmark Seattle WHL 20 17 17 34 19 +3

This Week: 1 GP, 2 G, 0 A, 2 P, 0 PIM, +2
Notes: Playing for team Canada at the WJC. Has been Seattle’s best player since the trade.

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Filip Novak Regina WHL 34 12 22 34 38 12

This Week: 3 GP, 1 G, 0 A, 1 P, 5 PIM, +1
Notes: Would be playing for the Czech Republic in the WJC, but because of past problems with his former Czech team, they refused to let him play in the tournament. He currently has 5 more goals this year through 34 games than he had all last year in 47 games. He also is only 5 points away from matching last seasons totals. His play has really improved from last season.

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Garret Bembridge Saskatoon WHL 35 24 20 44 12 -13

This Week: 3 GP, 1 G, 0 A, 2 P, 0 PIM, -6
Notes: Is having an outstanding season this year, and may have a bright future ahead of him. He needs 3 goals to match last season’s output in which he had 27 goals in 72 games. He also needs only 14 points to match his production from last season. Will likely see the AHL next season as he will be 20 and would be eligible to play in the minors.

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Evgeny Gusakov Baie-Comeau QMJHL 32 11 20 31 68 +5

This Week: 2 GP, 2 G, 2 A, 4 P, 4 PIM, +1
Notes: Has been playing pretty well for the Drakkar, averaging .97 points per game.

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Premsyl Duben Baie-Comeau QMJHL 23 0 7 7 24 -5

This Week: No Games Played
Notes: A lot remains unknown about this kid. He was ranked 77th overall out of Europeans leading up to the draft, and a lot of people didn’t even know he existed. I’m hoping he’s good as other good players went later in that same 4th round..most notably Lubomir Visnovsky. Duben is still looking for his 1st goal of the season.

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Nathan Martz New Hampshire HE 16 3 7 10 8 +2

This Week: 2 GP, 2 G, 2 A, 4 P, 0 PIM, +3
Notes: Had a good offensive week, potting 2 goals in 2 games. Before that he only had 1 goal through 14 games. Is playing faster paced hockey this season than he did last year in the BCHL and has found that scoring doesn’t come easy anymore.

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Patrick Aufiero Boston U. HE 13 1 3 4 12 -1

This Week: No Games Played
Notes: Has been playing solid hockey for BU. Is developing into a steady defenseman. Definitely has a bright future.

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Jeff Dessner Wisconsin WCHA 20 4 6 10 30 N/A

This Week: No Games Played
Notes: Another solid defenseman, next year will be exciting for Dessner, as he will most likely getting time in the minors refining his game.

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Dominic Moore Harvard ECAC 11 4 10 14 12 N/A

This Week: 1 GP, 0 G, 1 A, 1 P, 0 PIM, N/A
Notes: The Sophomore is tied for 1st in scoring on his team and has been playing exceptionally well at both ends of the rink.

Player Team League GP MIN GA Saves Save% GAA SO
Brandon Snee Union ECAC 11 647:44 27 296 .916 2.50 1

This Week: No Games Played
Notes: This junior has been playing great for Union this year. He has been getting some attention around the hockey world after being nearly unknown in the Entry Draft. There’s a possibility his peak will only be a mediocre minor leaguer as it looks now, but there’s still a lot of time for things to change.

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Dan Eberly Rensselaer ECAC 11 0 3 3 27 N/A

This Week: No Games Played.

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Patrick Leahy Miami-Ohio CCHA 16 3 14 17 26 +3

This Week: 1 GP, 1 G, 1 A, 2 P, 0 PIM, Even
Notes: This rugged senior is developing into a nice power forward, although he likely won’t be the answer to the Rangers’ need. Where he will be playing next season remains unknown as of now, but, with Pavel Brendl and Jamie Lundmark likely to take up whatever forward positions are available, it seems like he will be in the minors.

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
David Inman Notre Dame CCHA 17 6 2 8 6 -4

This Week: 3 GP, 0 G, 0 A, 0 P, 2 PIM, -1
Notes: He was highly touted during the draft, leading him to be a 2nd round pick. However, it seems as though he has dissappointed a lot of people with his play lately.

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Johan Witehall Hartford AHL 19 10 8 18 17 N/A

This Week: Currently in NHL

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Jeff Ulmer Hartford AHL 24 6 9 15 20 N/A

This Week: 1 GP, 0 G, 0 A, 0 P, 0 PIM
Notes: Has been playing a lot better than most people believed he would.

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Mike Mottau Hartford AHL 22 4 14 18 22 N/A

This Week: 1 GP, 0 G, 0 A, 0 P, 0 PIM
Notes: Mottau has really been playing well down in Hartford. Should an injury occur to the Rangers blueline, Mottau will most likely get the call. His time down in Hartford has helped him tremendously.

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Burke Henry Hartford AHL 25 4 12 16 52 N/A

This Week: 1 GP, 0 G, 0 A, 0 P, 0 PIM
Notes: Has really gotten back onto the radar this season after a very poor effort in his first pro season last year. Has yet to get his chance in the NHL, but will that happen soon?

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Manny Malhotra Hartford AHL 18 2 4 6 62 N/A

This Week: No Games Played
Notes: Was sent back down to Hartford on Sunday when Tomas Kloucek was called up. He played really well in New York.

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Jason Doig Hartford AHL 12 1 5 6 33 N/A

This Week: Injured
Notes: Will be out for the season after undergoing surgery on his leg.

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Brandon Dietrich Hartford AHL 21 1 2 5 0 N/A

This Week: 1 GP, 0 G, 0 A, 0 P, 0 PIM, N/A
Notes: Is starting to come around after a horrid start. Is an extremely disciplined player, as he has yet to receive a penalty in 21 games.

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Francois Fortier Hartford AHL 22 2 3 5 6 N/A

This Week: 1 GP, 0 G, 0 A, 0 P, 0 PIM
Notes: Has been playing in a limited role in Hartford..will not make the NHL anytime soon.

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Boyd Kane Hartford AHL 17 0 2 2 17 N/A

This Week: 1 GP, 0 G, 0 A, 0 P, 2 PIM
Notes: This guy hasn’t done much since being drafted a couple of years ago. Is definitely a career minor leaguer, as he has not been able to do anything in Hartford.

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Tomas Kloucek Hartford AHL 19 0 2 2 42 N/A

This Week: 1 GP, 0 G, 0 A, 0 P, 2 PIM, N/A
Notes: Has been recalled by the Rangers and has received a lot of ice time with the Rangers. Has been playing extremely well, and head coach Ron Low has said nothing but great things about him. He may be up with the Rangers for good, although was selected to the AHL all-star team.

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Stefan Cherneski Hartford AHL 24 1 5 6 26 N/A

This Week: 1 GP, 0 G, 0 A, 0 P, 0 PIM
Notes: He has seemed to have lost a step since being out of hockey for a while with his knee injury. He had a very promising future.

Notes: Has not been getting much ice-time lately since the suddenly strong play of Yeremeyev, but still has a bright future ahead of him.

Notes: Has been selected to the AHL all-star team! What a great accomplishment for someone who started the season struggling in the ECHL. Recently was in New York practicing with the Rangers last week.

This Week: 2 GP, 7 GA, 81 Saves
Notes: Has been playing well for the Checkers this season. With so much depth at the goalie position for the Rangers, it’s hard to get playing time anywhere else but the ECHL.

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Wes Jarvis Charlotte ECHL 17 1 0 1 92 -2

Johan Asplund Brynas SEL 15 2.16 2 .912

This Week: 2 Games Played
Notes: Asplund was bothered by an injury over the past month, but he is healthy now and will continue to play well. With Holmqvist now in North America, it’s Asplund’s time to step up and be the top goalie in Sweden.

This Week: 1 Game Played
Notes: Will be representing Sweden at the upcoming WJC. After Pat Jablonski signed with Frolunda in the Swedish Elite League, Lundqvist wasn’t getting a lot of playing time and was assigned to Moldnal of the Allsvenskan Södra, a tier 2 league in Sweden, where has hasn’t been playing like he is able to. He has chipped in on the offense, as he has 2 assists.

Notes: Is having a good season for Skelleftea in the Allvsvenskan Norra, another tier 2 league in Sweden. May have a shot at the NHL in the future.

This Week: 2 GP, 10 GA, 61 saves
Notes: Because of the Rangers depth of goaltending throughout the organization, Wandler has had no choice but to play in the UHL. He is doing so-so in a bad league. His spectacular year last year was just an aberation.

Player Team League GP G A P PIM +/-
Jay Dardis Rochester USHL 24 3 5 8 33 N/A

2. Stefan Lundqvist: 2 GP, 3 G, 1 A, 4 P
3. Nathan Martz: 2 GP, 2 G, 2 A, 4 P

News And Notes:
It has been confirmed by Newsday that indeed the only prospects for the Rangers in the upcoming WJC in Moscow, Russia are Brendl, Lundmark, Helfenstein, and H. Lundqvist (Brendl had a goal in a 3-3 tie in an exhibition game yesterday with the Czech Republic.)
