No…. journeyman Lørenskog (Oslo-North) defender Anders Myrvold last evening came to agreement on a try out contract with the New York Rangers. Myrvold a 6-1 195lber defender who has played in such outposts as Laval, AIK, Quebec-Colorado, Boston, Providence, Springfield and Nassau, L.I. and so on… has decided to check out the bright lights and big city of New York…or perhaps the less bright lights of Hartford in the American League.
Myrvold who split time with the Islanders and their AHL affiliate in Springfield had originally spurned an offer from Mike Milbury`s Islanders and then the Montreal Canadiens with hopes of landing the “big” deal in Switzerland. However that deal was pulled and Myrvold was left without a club and trained with the Vålerenga club of the Norwegian Elite League along with NHLer Espen Knutsen.
Myrvold a solid skating defender who is not afraid of making the rush or taking the body has a decent shot at making the Rangers this season, espcially after seeing who is who on their list of “prospects” and “incumbents”.
Aftenposten of Oslo reported that Myrvold turned down a guaranteed contract with the St.Louis Blues in order to have a shot with Eric Lindros and Mark Messier. Myrvold`s deal is reportedly worth about 5 million Kroners or 550k USD if he makes the club.
At VIF (Vålerenga`s) practice was Columbus` Espen Knutsen who looked solid and Anders Myrvold who was moving the puck well and played a smart scrimmage. Myrvold has a shot to stick and if he does it will be great for hockey in Norway.
