NHL Cancels Weekends Games
The National Hockey League announced today that all games through Sunday, September 16 have been canceled. The regular slate of pre-season games will start on Monday, September 17.

Sound Tigers Attend Norwalk Oyster Festival
The Bridgeport Sound Tigers front office, players, and mascot attended the Norwalk Oyster Festival. Fans were able to meet players, purchase merchandise, and purchase tickets for the upcoming season. The team was on hand at the Big Boy Toy Show Tent.

The oyster festival is a major fundraiser for the revitalization of the Norwalk Harbor area. The celebration is held in Veteran’s Park in East Norwalk. Proceeds from each year’s festival also provide year-round funding for the Norwalk Seaport Association’s environmental Education Programs.

Emile Francis and Norman Poile Honored with New AHL Trophies
The AHL’s two new division trophies will be named in the honor of Emile “The Cat” Francis for the North Division and Norman “Bud” Poile for the West Division.

Francis played 343 games in the American Hockey League, and was on the Calder Cup Champion Cleveland Barons in 1954. In addition to his time in the AHL “The Cat’ has played 14 seasons of professional hockey. Emile has served in the NHL from Coach to General Manager and won the Lester Patrick Trophy in 1982 and was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame also in 1982.

Poile started his playing career in the 1940′s and won the Stanley Cup in 1947 with the Toronto Maple Leafs. In the Western Hockey League Bud oversaw championship teams in Edmonton and San Francisco. Poile was also general manager for the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers and the Vancouver Canucks. Bud also served as the general manager for the AHL’s Quebec Aces from 1968 to 1970. Poile served as the vice president of the World Hockey Association and commissioner for both the Central Hockey League and International Hockey League. In 1990 Bud Poile was elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

8/22/01 Working Agreement with Trenton Titans
The New York Islanders renewed their working agreement with the Trenton Titans of the East Coast Hockey League. The Agreement will add more depth to the Sound Tigers. This will be the third season for the Titans, and the third season of being an Islanders affiliate.

9/4/01 Sound Tigers Announce Opening Week Festivities
The Sound Tigers announced plans for their opening week celebrations. The Sound Tigers will begin with opening night festivities on Wednesday, October 10, beginning with a pre-game video starting at 7:05. The Sound Tigers also have player introductions and celebrity puck drop scheduled for opening night. On Friday, October 12, News Channel 8 presents the first game against in state rivals the Hartford Wolf Pack. Then on Sunday, October 14, is kids opening day with a start time of 3:05. During kids day the Port Jeff Ferry will be giving away the chance for one boy and girl to win a round trip in the bridge with the Captain.
