Canadiens’ Weekly Prospects Update

Andrei Markov -D (Drafted-98(6/162))

Markov continued his strong play with 3 assists through 1 game this week. His 3 assists came during a 4-3 overtime loss to Wilkes Barre. He’s 6th in league scoring and 2nd in goals among defensemen. Overall, the Russian defenseman has played 11 games. He has 10 points (4-6-11), and is a league leading +11 with 7 minutes in penalties. One of his goals was scored on the powerplay.

Ron Hainsey -D (Drafted-00(1/13))

Hainsey remains unable to play. He suffered a wrist injury on October 24th, and could return to action in 2 weeks. Overall, the 6’3″, 200-lbs defenseman has played 7 games. He has 6 points (3-3-6), and is +3 with 6 minutes in penalties. At the time of his injury, and in fact even 3 games into his time off Hainsey still led the team with 25 shots on goal.

Michael Ryder -W (Drafted-98(8/216))

Ryder registered 1 assist through 1 game since our last update. He’s playing a strong 2-way game and is among the team’s top defensive forwards. Overall, the 6’1″, 195-lbs winger has played 8 games. He has 4 points (2-2-4), and is +5 with 7 shots on goal. He has been a healthy scratch for 3 games this season.

Eric Chouinard -F (Drafted-98(1/16))

Chouinard has found a happy home on a line with Aaron Asham and Craig Darby. He scored 1 goal and added 1 assist through 1 game this week. Overall, the 6’3″, 207-lbs forward has played 9 games. He has 12 points (4-8-12), and is +6 with 2 minutes in penalties. He also has 26 shots on goal.

Marc-Andre Thinel -F (Drafted-99(5/145))

Thinel was shutout through 1 game since our last update. He did however finish the game with a solid +1 rating. Overall, the 5’10”, 178-lbs winger has played 11 games. He has 4 points (1-3-4), and is +7 with 2 minutes in penalties. He also has 12 shots on goal.

Mathieu Descoteaux -D (Drafted-96(1/19) Edmonton)

Descoteaux was shutout through 1 game this week. He finished that game with a -2 rating. Overall, the 6’4′, 208-lbs defenseman has played 10 games. He has 5 points (2-3-5), and is +1 with 8 minutes in penalties. Two of his goals were scored on the powerplay, and he has 23 shots on goal.

Vadim Tarasov -G (Drafted-99(7/196))

Tarasov continues to suffer from a groin injury. He made the trip out west with the Canadiens but did not dress. Overall, the 5’11”, 187-lbs goalie has played 3 AHL games. He is 2-0-1 with a 2.28 GAA, and a .926 save percentage.

Jason Ward -F (Drafted-97(1/11))

Ward was shutout through 1 game since our last update. After a solid start, he has cooled off of late; going pointless in his last 2 games. Overall, the 6’3″, 193-lbs winger has played 11 games. He has 10 points (4-6-10) with 26 minutes in penalties. His plus/minus is even, and one of his goals was scored on the powerplay. He’s also managed 26 shots on goal.

Marcel Hossa -C/W (Drafted-00(1/16))

Hossa was shut out through 1 game this week. Overall, the 6’2″, 211-lbs winger has played 11 games, He has 7 points (2-5-7), and is +6 with 4 minutes in penalties. He’s also directed 19 shots on goal.

Martti Jarventie -D (Drafted-01(4/109))

Jarventie returned to action this week after sitting out 4 games with a shoulder injury. He was shutout during his lone appearance. Overall, the 5’11”, 185-lbs defenseman has played 5 games. He has 4 points (1-3-4), and is +1 with no minutes in penalties.

Timo Vertala -W (Drafted-96(5/181))

Vertala was shutout through 1 game this week. Overall, the 6’1″, 180-lbs. winger has played 10 games. He has 4 point (3-1-4) with 4 minutes in penalties. His plus/minus is even, and he’s managed 15 shots on goal.

Francois Beauchemin -D (Drafted-98(3/75))

Beauchemin, an assistant captain with the Mississippi Sea Wolves was shutout through 2 games this week. Overall, the 6’0″, 201-lbs defenseman has played 6 games. He has 3 points (1-2-3), and is -2 with no minutes in penalties. He has also directed 11 shots on goal.

Jerome Marois -LW (Drafted-99(9/253))

Mississippi’s Jerome Marois is currently on the Sea Wolves’ injured reserve with a minor leg injury.

Olivier Michaud -G (Free Agent-2001(3-y contract))

Shawinigan’s Olivier Michaud lived a dream last week. He came on in relief of Garon to start the 3rd period against Edmonton, and stopped every shot he faced. He was returned to Shawinigan on November 5th, 2001. Overall the 5’11, 163-lbs goalie is 10-3 with a QMJHL leading 2.21 GAA, and an .895 save percentage.

Christian Larrivée -C (Drafted-00(4/114))

Chicoutimi’s Christian Larrivée registered 3 points through 4 games this week. His best offensive game came against Québec, as he managed 2 assists during a 5-4 loss. Overall, the 6’3″, 195-lbs Larrivée has played 20 games. He has 25 points (14-11-25), and is -2 with 19 minutes in penalties. He leads his team in goals scored. Five of his 14 goals were scored on the powerplay, while another was scored shorthanded.

Duncan Milroy -RW (Drafted-01(2/37))

Swift Current’s Duncan Milroy managed 4 points through 3 games since our last update. His best offensive game came against Medicine Hat, as he scored 2 goals and added 1 assist during a 5-4 Loss. Milroy leads the Broncos, and is 2nd in the entire WHL in goals scored. Overall, the 6’0″, 185-lbs winger has played 15 games. He has 20 points (15-5-20), and is -2 with 14 minutes in penalties. Five of his goals were scored on the powerplay, while 2 others were scored shorthanded.

Josef Balej -RW (Drafted-00(3/78))

Portland’s Josef Balej registered 4 points through 2 games since our last update. His best offensive game came against Brandon, as he scored 2 goals and added 1 assist during a 4-1 win. Overall, the 5’11”, 175-lbs winger has played 14 games. He has 22 points (11-11-22), and is +10 with 6 minutes in penalties. One of his goals was scored short-handed, while 2 others were scored on the powerplay.

Andrew Archer -D (Drafted-01(7/203))

Guelph’s Andrew Archer was shutout through 2 games since our last update. Overall, the 6’4″, 195-lbs stay at home defenseman has played 16 games. The Guelph assistant captain has 6 assists, and is +5 with 30 minutes in penalties.

Eric Himelfarb -C (Drafted-01(6/171))

Sarnia’s Eric Himelfarb managed 5 points through 2 games this week. His best offensive game came against Barrie, as he scored 2 goals and added 1 assist during a 6-3 win. Overall, the 5’9″, 161-lbs center has played 20 games. He has 24 points (12-12-24), and is -2 with 12 minutes in penalties. Four of his goals were scored on the powerplay.

Mike Komisarek -D (Drafted-01(1/7))

Komisarek was shutout through 2 games this week. He’s tied for 3rd on his team in scoring and leads all Michigan defenseman in points. Overall, the 6’4″, 228-lbs defenseman has played 9 games. He has 6 points (2-4-6), and is a team leading +6 with 28 minutes in penalties. He’s also managed 18 shots on goal.

Chris Dyment -D (Drafted-99(4/97))

Boston University’s Chris Dyment scored 2 goals through 2 games this week. He’s playing his best offensive hockey since the 1999-2000 season, and was rewarded with Hockey East’s player of the week for the week ending October 29th. The 6’3″, 202-lbs. defenseman has played 5 games. He has 5 points (4-1-5), and is +4 with 2 minutes in penalties. Three of his goals were scored on the powerplay while another was scored shorthanded.

Matt Shasby -D (Drafted-99(5/150))

Alaska-Anchorage University’s Matt Shasby registered 1 assist through 2 games this week. Easily UAA’s best defenseman and possibly the team’s best player, Shasby continues to put up big minutes even though a recent injury has forced him to play with a knee brace. Overall, the 6’3″, 200-lbs. defenseman has played 7 games. He has 3 assists with 37 minutes in penalties. His next game is November 9th against Maine.

Scott Selig -C/RW (Drafted-00(6/172))

Northeastern University’s Scott Selig was shutout through 2 games this week. Overall, the 6’3″, 180-lbs. forward has played 8 games. He has 1 goal, and is a disappointing -5 with 12 minutes in penalties. His lone goal was scored on the powerplay. NU’s next game is November 11th against Providence.

Ryan Glenn -D (Drafted-00(5/145))

St. Lawrence University’s Ryan Glenn recorded 1 assist through 1 game this week. Overall, the 6’2″, 210-lbs. defenseman has played 5 games. He has 1 assist, and is -2 with 4 minutes in penalties. He has 8 shots on goal, and his next game is November 9th against Yale.

Alexander Buturlin -RW (Drafted-99(2/39))

Buturlin was shutout through 2 games this week. Overall, the 6’0″, 187 lbs. Buturlin has played 17 games. He has 4 points (2-2-4) to go along with 6 minutes in penalties.

Alexander Perezhogin -C (Drafted-01(1/25))

Perezhogin is playing with Mostovik Kurgan of the Russian High League. Overall, the 5’11”, 175-lbs center has played 12 games. He has 18 points (11-7-18) to go along with 10 minutes in penalties. His point total is good enough for second place in league scoring behind teammate Andrei Taratukhin.

Joni Puurula -G (Drafted-00(8/243))

HPK’s Joni Puurula should eventually play in the Finnish Elite league this season. He’s currently suffering from some sort of infection, and has yet to play a minute this season. In the meantime, HPK was forced to sign another goalie. Puurula is also fulfilling his army obligation. The 19 year-old goalie’s return to action is tentatively scheduled for just after Christmas.

Johan Eneqvist -F (Drafted-00(4/109))

Leksands IF’s Johan Eneqvist continues to struggle this season. The 19 year-old former captain of the Swedish Under-18 team registered 1 assist through 3 games since our last update, and has been seeing limited ice-time playing on the team’s 4th line. Overall, the 6’0″, 190-lbs forward has played 16 games. He has 2 points (0-2-2), and is -5 with 10 minutes in penalties.

Tomas Plekanec -LW (Drafted-01(3/71))

Kladno’s Tomas Plekanec managed 1 assist through 2 games this week. Overall, the 5’10”, 196-lbs winger has played 20 games. He has 9 points (4-5-9), and is -5 with 20 minutes in penalties.

Victor Ujcik -F (Drafted-01(9/266))

Slavia Praha’s Viktor Ujcik was shutout through 2 games since our last update. Overall, the 5’10”, 194-lbs winger has played 20 games. He has 14 points (5-9-14), and is -7 with 12 minutes in penalties.

Hab you Heard?

Kim Staal, the Habs’ 4th round pick in ’96 has 13 points (6-7-13) through 19 games with Modo of the Swedish Elite League. He’s +3, with 6 minutes in penalties. One of his goals was scored on the powerplay.

-Ilkka Mikkola, the Habs’ 3rd round pick in ’97 has 1 goal through 17 games with Jokerit of the Finnish Elite League. He is +2, with 10 minutes in penalties.

-Evan Lindsay has a 2-0 record through 2 games with Mississippi of the ECHL this week. He has a solid 2.00 GAA, and an impressive .947 save percentage.
