Canadiens’ Weekly Prospects Update

Andrei Markov -D (Drafted-98(6/162))

Due to a combination of his strong play, and injuries to Stephane Quintal and Patrick Traverse Markov was called up to Montréal on November 6th. He’s continued his strong play since the call, and has contributed during each of the 4 games he’s played. Overall, the Russian defenseman has played 12 AHL games. He has 10 points (4-6-10), and was a league leading +14 with 7 minutes in penalties. One of his goals was scored on the powerplay.

Ron Hainsey -D (Drafted-00(1/13))

Hainsey remains unable to play. He suffered a wrist injury on October 24th, and could return to action within the next week. Overall, the 6’3″, 200-lbs defenseman has played 7 games. He has 6 points (3-3-6), and is +3 with 6 minutes in penalties. Despite missing 3 games Hainsey still leads the team with 25 shots on goal.

Mike Ribeiro -C (Drafted-98(2/45))

Riberio continues to split his time between Montréal and Québec. The latest trip had him returning to Québec on November 6th. He’s managed 4 points through 2 games since his return. All 4 points came during a 5-4 loss to Manitoba. Overall, the shifty center has played 6 AHL games. He has 6 points (2-4-6), and is +4 with 14 minutes in penalties. One of his goals was scored on the powerplay.

Michael Ryder -W (Drafted-98(8/216))

Ryder was shutout through 1 game since our last update. He was a healthy scratch during 2 of Québec’s 3 games this week. Overall, the 6’1″, 195-lbs winger has played 9 games. He has 4 points (2-2-4), and is +5 with 2 minutes in penalties. He’s also managed 8 shots on goal.

Eric Chouinard -F (Drafted-98(1/16))

Chouinard has continued to contribute despite losing centerman Craig Darby to the Canadiens. He managed 4 points through 3 games this week. Overall, the 6’3″, 207-lbs forward has played 12 games. He has 16 points (5-11-16), and is +7 with 2 minutes in penalties. He also has 33 shots on goal. Chouinard set a league-high for shots in 1 game this season with 11 shots on goal during an October 28th game against Wilkes-Barre.

Francois Beauchemin -D (Drafted-98(3/75))

Beauchemin was re-called by Québec on November 7th. He has registered points in each of the 2 games he’s played since. Overall, the 6’0″, 201-lbs defenseman has played 2 games. He has 2 points (1-1-2), and is +1 with 6 minutes in penalties. Beauchemin has also played 7 ECHL games with Mississippi. He has 4 points (1-3-4), and is -1 with 2 minutes in penalties. He’s directed 13 shots on goal.

Marc-Andre Thinel -F (Drafted-99(5/145))

Thinel was shutout through 2 games since our last update, and finished the week with a -1 rating. Overall, the 5’10”, 178-lbs winger has played 13 games. He has 4 points (1-3-4), and is +6 with 2 minutes in penalties. He also has 12 shots on goal.

Mathieu Descoteaux -D (Drafted-96(1/19) Edmonton)

Descoteaux scored 1 goal through 2 games this week, and finished the week with a -4 rating. Overall, the 6’4′, 208-lbs defenseman has played 12 games. He has 6 points (3-3-6), and is -3 with 10 minutes in penalties. All 3 of his goals were scored on the powerplay, and he has 32 shots on goal.

Vadim Tarasov -G (Drafted-99(7/196))

Tarasov continues to suffer from a groin injury. He remains in Montréal to undergo treatment for the injury. Overall, the 5’11”, 187-lbs goalie has played 3 AHL games. He is 2-0-1 with a 2.28 GAA, and a .926 save percentage.

Jason Ward -F (Drafted-97(1/11))

Ward managed 1 assist through 3 games since our last update. His lone point this week came during a 6-4 loss to Manitoba. Overall, the 6’3″, 193-lbs winger has played 14 games. He has 11 points (4-7-11) with 53 minutes in penalties. His plus/minus is even, and one of his goals was scored on the powerplay. He’s also managed 32 shots on goal.

Marcel Hossa -C/W (Drafted-00(1/16))

Hossa recorded 2 assists through 3 games this week. Overall, the 6’2″, 211-lbs winger has played 14 games, He has 9 points (2-7-9), and is +6 with 10 minutes in penalties. He’s also directed 27 shots on goal.

Martti Jarventie -D (Drafted-01(4/109))

Jarventie managed 1 assist through 3 games this week. His lone point came during a 4-1 win over Lowell. Overall, the 5’11”, 185-lbs defenseman has played 8 games. He has 5 points (1-4-5), and is +2 with no minutes in penalties. He’s also registered 13 shots on goal.

Timo Vertala -W (Drafted-96(5/181))

Vertala was shutout through 3 games this week. Overall, the 6’1″, 180-lbs. winger has played 13 games. He has 4 point (3-1-4) with 6 minutes in penalties. His plus/minus is even, and he’s managed 15 shots on goal.

Jerome Marois -LW (Drafted-99(9/253))

Mississippi’s Jerome Marois continues to be on the Sea Wolves’ injured-reserve list with a minor leg injury.

Olivier Michaud -G (Free Agent-2001(3-y contract))

Michaud returned to QMHL action without missing a beat. Through 2 games since his return he has a 2-0 record with a 1.00 GAA, and a .959 save percentage. Overall the 5’11, 163-lbs goalie is 12-3 with a QMJHL leading 2.05 GAA, and a .905 save percentage. He’s second in the league with 12 wins, while his save percentage is good enough for 5th place.

Christian Larrivée -C (Drafted-00(4/114))

Chicoutimi’s Christian Larrivée was shutout through 2 games this week. This 2-game point-scoring drought matches his season-high. Overall, the 6’3″, 195-lbs Larrivée has played 22 games. He has 25 points (14-11-25), and is -4 with 19 minutes in penalties. Five of his 14 goals were scored on the powerplay, while another was scored shorthanded.

Duncan Milroy -RW (Drafted-01(2/37))

Swift Current’s Duncan Milroy managed 2 points through 2 games since our last update. Milroy continues to lead the Broncos in goals scored. Overall, the 6’0″, 185-lbs winger has played 17 games. He has 22 points (16-6-22), and is -2 with 18 minutes in penalties. Five of his goals were scored on the powerplay, while 2 others were scored shorthanded.

Josef Balej -RW (Drafted-00(3/78))

Portland’s Josef Balej was shutout through 2 games since our last update. Overall, the 5’11”, 175-lbs winger has played 16 games. He has 22 points (11-11-22), and is +9 with 10 minutes in penalties. Two of his goals were scored short-handed, while 2 others were scored on the powerplay.

Andrew Archer -D (Drafted-01(7/203))

Guelph’s Andrew Archer managed 1 assist through 3 games since our last update. Overall, the 6’4″, 195-lbs stay at home defenseman has played 21 games. The Guelph assistant captain has 7 assists, and is +3 with 34 minutes in penalties.

Eric Himelfarb -C (Drafted-01(6/171))

Sarnia’s Eric Himelfarb recorded 2 assists through 2 games this week. Overall, the 5’9″, 161-lbs center has played 22 games. He has 26 points (12-14-26), and is -2 with 14 minutes in penalties. Four of his goals were scored on the powerplay.

Mike Komisarek -D (Drafted-01(1/7))

Komisarek, along with his entire Michigan team did not play in any games this week. He’s tied for 3rd on his team in scoring and leads all Michigan defenseman in points. Overall, the 6’4″, 228-lbs defenseman has played 9 games. He has 6 points (2-4-6), and is a team leading +6 with 28 minutes in penalties. He’s also managed 18 shots on goal. His next game is November 16th against Nebraska.

Chris Dyment -D (Drafted-99(4/97))

Boston University’s Chris Dyment was shutout through 1 game since our last update. Overall, the 6’3″, 202-lbs. defenseman has played 6 games. He has 5 points (4-1-5), and is +4 with 6 minutes in penalties. Three of his goals were scored on the powerplay while another was scored shorthanded.

Matt Shasby -D (Drafted-99(5/150))

Alaska-Anchorage University’s Matt Shasby, along with his entire team did not play in any games this week. Easily UAA’s best defenseman and possibly the team’s best player, Shasby continues to put up big minutes even though a recent injury has forced him to play with a knee brace. In fact, he played more than 34 minutes in each of UAA’s games last week. Overall, the 6’3″, 200-lbs. defenseman has played 7 games. He has 3 assists with 37 minutes in penalties. His next game is November 16th against St. Cloud.

Scott Selig -C/RW (Drafted-00(6/172))

Northeastern University’s Scott Selig was shutout through 2 games this week. Overall, the 6’3″, 180-lbs. forward has played 10 games. He has 1 goal, and is a disappointing -5 with 14 minutes in penalties. His lone goal was scored on the powerplay.

Ryan Glenn -D (Drafted-00(5/145))

St. Lawrence University’s Ryan Glenn was shutout through 2 games this week. Overall, the 6’2″, 210-lbs. defenseman has played 7 games. He has 1 assist, and is -2 with 4 minutes in penalties. He has 15 shots on goal.

Alexander Buturlin -RW (Drafted-99(2/39))

Buturlin was shutout through 1 game this week. Overall, the 6’0″, 187 lbs. forward has played 18 games. He has 4 points (2-2-4) to go along with 6 minutes in penalties.

Alexander Perezhogin -C (Drafted-01(1/25))

Perezhogin is playing with Mostovik Kurgan of the Russian High League. His statistics have been updated by 2 games since our last update. Overall, the 5’11”, 175-lbs center has played 14 games. He has 18 points (11-7-18) to go along with 10 minutes in penalties. His point total is good enough for second place in league scoring behind teammate Andrei Taratukhin.

Joni Puurula -G (Drafted-00(8/243))

HPK’s Joni Puurula should eventually play in the Finnish Elite league this season. He’s currently suffering from some sort of infection, and has yet to play a minute this season. In the meantime, HPK was forced to sign another goalie. Puurula is also fulfilling his army obligation. The 19 year-old goalie’s return to action is tentatively scheduled for just after Christmas.

Johan Eneqvist -F (Drafted-00(4/109))

Leksands IF’s Johan Eneqvist did not play in any games since our last update. Overall, the 6’0″, 190-lbs forward has played 16 games. He has 2 points (0-2-2), and is -5 with 10 minutes in penalties.

Tomas Plekanec -LW (Drafted-01(3/71))

Kladno’s Tomas Plekanec did not play in any games since our last update. Overall, the 5’10”, 196-lbs winger has played 20 games. He has 9 points (4-5-9), and is -5 with 20 minutes in penalties.

Victor Ujcik -F (Drafted-01(9/266))

Slavia Praha’s Viktor Ujcik played 4 games for the Czech Republic during the Sweden Hockey Games this week. He managed 3 points (1-2-3) with 2 minutes in penalties. Overall, the 5’10”, 194-lbs winger has played 20 regular season games. He has 14 points (5-9-14), and is -7 with 12 minutes in penalties.

Hab you Heard?

Kim Staal, the Habs’ 4th round pick in ’96 has 13 points (6-7-13) through 19 games with Modo of the Swedish Elite League. He’s +3, with 6 minutes in penalties. One of his goals was scored on the powerplay.

-Ilkka Mikkola, the Habs’ 3rd round pick in ’97 has 1 goal through 17 games with Jokerit of the Finnish Elite League. He is +2, with 10 minutes in penalties.

-Evan Lindsay has a 3-0 record with Mississippi of the ECHL this week. He has a solid 2.00 GAA, and an impressive .945 save percentage. His GAA is good enough for 4th place in the ECHL, while his save percentage translates to 2nd place.
