Canadiens’ weekly prospects update

Ron Hainsey -D (Drafted-00(1/13))

Hainsey remains unable to play. He suffered a wrist injury on October 24th, and could return to action within the next week. Overall, the 6’3″, 200-lbs defenseman has played 7 games. He has 6 points (3-3-6), and is +3 with 6 minutes in penalties. Despite missing 3 games Hainsey still leads the team with 25 shots on goal.

Mathieu Garon -G (Drafted-96(2/44))

Garon was sent down to Québec on November 16th, 2001. The demotion was strictly for conditioning purposes, and Garon was back in Montréal the next day. Prior to being promoted, the 6’2″, 192-lbs goalie was 4-0-1 with a 2.36 GAA, and an impressive .931 save percentage.

Mike Ribeiro -C (Drafted-98(2/45))

Riberio managed 3 points through 3 games since our last update. His best offensive game came against Manchester. He scored 1 goal and added 1 assist during the 4-2 win. Overall, the shifty center has played 9 AHL games. He has 9 points (3-6-9), and is +5 with 16 minutes in penalties. One of his goals was scored on the powerplay.

Michael Ryder -W (Drafted-98(8/216))

Ryder was shutout through 1 game last week. He was a healthy scratch during 2 of Québec’s 3 games this week. Overall, the 6’1″, 195-lbs winger has played 10 games. He has 4 points (2-2-4), and is +5 with 2 minutes in penalties. He’s also managed 8 shots on goal.

Eric Chouinard -F (Drafted-98(1/16))

Chouinard scored 2 goals through 3 games this week. He was enjoying a 4-game points-scoring streak until being shutout during the 4-2 win over Manchester. Overall, the 6’3″, 207-lbs forward has played 15 games. He has 18 points (7-11-18), and is +7 with 2 minutes in penalties. He also has a team leading 44 shots on goal.

Francois Beauchemin -D (Drafted-98(3/75))

Beauchemin has enjoyed some success since his return to Québec. He managed 1 point through 3 games since our last update. Overall, the 6’0″, 201-lbs defenseman has played 5 games. He has 3 points (1-2-3), and is +3 with 6 minutes in penalties. Beauchemin has also played 7 ECHL games with Mississippi. He has 4 points (1-3-4), and is -1 with 2 minutes in penalties. He’s directed 13 shots on goal.

Marc-Andre Thinel -F (Drafted-99(5/145))

Thinel was shutout through 3 games since our last update. Overall, the 5’10”, 178-lbs winger has played 16 games. He has 4 points (1-3-4), and is +6 with 2 minutes in penalties. He also has 12 shots on goal.

Mathieu Descoteaux -D (Drafted-96(1/19) Edmonton)

Descoteaux registered 2 points through 3 games this week. Overall, the 6’4′, 208-lbs defenseman has played 15 games. He has 8 points (3-5-8), and is -3 with 14 minutes in penalties. All 3 of his goals were scored on the powerplay, and he has 37 shots on goal.

Vadim Tarasov -G (Drafted-99(7/196))

Tarasov continues to suffer from a groin injury. He remains in Montréal to undergo treatment for the injury. Overall, the 5’11”, 187-lbs goalie has played 3 AHL games. He is 2-0-1 with a 2.28 GAA, and a .926 save percentage.

Jason Ward -F (Drafted-97(1/11))

Ward managed 2 assists through 3 games since our last update. Overall, the 6’3″, 193-lbs winger has played 17 games. He has 13 points (4-9-13), and is +1 with 59 minutes in penalties. One of his goals was scored on the powerplay, and he’s directed 37 shots on goal.

Marcel Hossa -C/W (Drafted-00(1/16))

Hossa scored 1 goal through 3 games this week. His stats so far this season are reasonably comparable to those numbers put up by Ribeiro through the same number of games last year. Overall, the 6’2″, 211-lbs winger has played 17 games. He has 10 points (3-7-10), and is +7 with 10 minutes in penalties. He’s also directed 32 shots on goal.

Martti Jarventie -D (Drafted-01(4/109))

Jarventie was shutout through 3 games this week. Overall, the 5’11”, 185-lbs defenseman has played 11 games. He has 5 points (1-4-5), and is +1 with no minutes in penalties. He’s also registered 22 shots on goal.

Timo Vertala -W (Drafted-96(5/181))

Vertala was shutout through 2 games this week. Overall, the 6’1″, 180-lbs. winger has played 15 games. He has 4 point (3-1-4) with 6 minutes in penalties. His plus/minus is even, and he’s managed 22 shots on goal.

Jerome Marois -LW (Drafted-99(9/253))

Mississippi’s Jerome Marois returned from a leg injury to play 2 games this week. Overall, the 6’0″, 192-lbs winger has played 4 ECHL games. He has 1 assist, and is minus-2 with 8 shots on goal.

Olivier Michaud -G (Free Agent-2001(3-y contract))

Michaud enjoyed a 2-0-1 record through 3 games this week. Overall the 5’11, 163-lbs goalie is 14-3-1 with a QMJHL leading 2.09 GAA, and a .900 save percentage. He’s second in the league with 14 wins, while his save percentage is good enough for 7th place.

Christian Larrivée -C (Drafted-00(4/114))

Chicoutimi’s Christian Larrivée registered 3 points through 3 games this week. Overall, the 6’3″, 195-lbs Larrivée has played 25 games. He has 28 points (15-13-28) with 19 minutes in penalties. His plus/minus is currently even, while 6 of his 15 goals were scored on the powerplay.

Duncan Milroy -RW (Drafted-01(2/37))

Swift Current’s Duncan Milroy managed 3 points through 3 games since our last update. All of his points were scored during an 8-1 win over Lethbridge. Milroy’s goal total is good enough for 3rd in the WHL. Overall, the 6’0″, 185-lbs winger has played 20 games. He has 25 points (17-8-25), and is -2 with 18 minutes in penalties. Five of his goals were scored on the powerplay, while 2 others were scored shorthanded.

Josef Balej -RW (Drafted-00(3/78))

Portland’s Josef Balej managed 2 points through 2 games since our last update. Overall, the 5’11”, 175-lbs winger has played 18 games. He has 24 points (12-12-24), and is +8 with 10 minutes in penalties. Two of his goals were scored short-handed, while 2 others were scored on the powerplay.

Andrew Archer -D (Drafted-01(7/203))

Guelph’s Andrew Archer was shutout through 3 games since our last update. Overall, the 6’4″, 195-lbs stay at home defenseman has played 24 games. The Guelph assistant captain has 7 assists, and is +4 with 36 minutes in penalties.

Eric Himelfarb -C (Drafted-01(6/171))

Sarnia’s Eric Himelfarb scored 1 goal and added 2 assists through 3 games this week. He was shutout during Sunday’s 2-1 win over Guelph, thereby ending a 6-game point-scoring streak. Overall, the 5’9″, 161-lbs center has played 25 games. He has 29 points (13-16-29), and is -2 with 25 minutes in penalties. Four of his goals were scored on the powerplay, while another was scored shorthanded.

Mike Komisarek -D (Drafted-01(1/7))

Komisarek managed 1 assist through 2 games this week. Overall, the 6’4″, 228-lbs defenseman has played 11 games. He has 7 points (2-5-7), and is a team leading +5 with 30 minutes in penalties. He’s also managed 24 shots on goal.

Scott Selig -C/RW (Drafted-00(6/172))

Northeastern University’s Scott Selig was shutout through 1 game this week. Overall, the 6’3″, 180-lbs. forward has played 11 games. He has 1 goal, and is a disappointing -8 with 14 minutes in penalties. His lone goal was scored on the powerplay.

Ryan Glenn -D (Drafted-00(5/145))

St. Lawrence University’s Ryan Glenn did not play in any games this week. Overall, the 6’2″, 210-lbs. defenseman has played 7 games. He has 1 assist, and is -2 with 4 minutes in penalties. He has 15 shots on goal. His next game is November 23rd against Providence.

Alexander Perezhogin -C (Drafted-01(1/25))

Perezhogin is playing with Mostovik Kurgan of the Russian High League. His statistics have been updated by 3 games since our last update. Overall, the 5’11”, 175-lbs center has played 17 games. He has 19 points (11-8-19) to go along with 10 minutes in penalties. His point total is good enough for seventh place in league scoring.

Joni Puurula -G (Drafted-00(8/243))

HPK’s Joni Puurula has begun to dress for games for the first time since the preseason, but has yet to see any game-action.

Johan Eneqvist -F (Drafted-00(4/109))

Leksands IF’s Johan Eneqvist was shutout through 2 games since our last update. Overall, the 6’0″, 190-lbs forward has played 18 games. He has 2 points (0-2-2), with 10 minutes in penalties. His plus/minus has improved from a season low minus-5, and is currently even.

Tomas Plekanec -LW (Drafted-01(3/71))

Kladno’s Tomas Plekanec was shutout through 2 games since our last update. Overall, the 5’10”, 196-lbs winger has played 22 games. He has 9 points (4-5-9), and is -6 with 22 minutes in penalties.

Victor Ujcik -F (Drafted-01(9/266))

Slavia Praha’s Viktor Ujcik was shutout through 2 games this week. Overall, the 5’10”, 194-lbs winger has played 22 regular season games. He has 14 points (5-9-14), and is -7 with 14 minutes in penalties.

Hab you Heard?

Kim Staal, the Habs’ 4th round pick in ’96 has 13 points (6-7-13) through 22 games with Modo of the Swedish Elite League. He’s +3, with 6 minutes in penalties. One of his goals was scored on the powerplay.

-Ilkka Mikkola, the Habs’ 3rd round pick in ’97 has 1 goal through 21 games with Jokerit of the Finnish Elite League. He is +3 with 10 minutes in penalties.

-Evan Lindsay has a 3-1 record with Mississippi of the ECHL. He has a solid 2.27 GAA, and an impressive .932 save percentage. His save percentage is good enough for 5th place in the entire league.
