Canadiens’ weekly prospects update

Michael Ryder -W (Drafted-98(8/216))

Ryder was assigned to Mississippi of the ECHL on November 27th. In 3 games since his demotion the Newfoundlander has 4 points (2-2-4), and is -3 with one powerplay goal. Most impressive are his 18 shots, which translate to an average of 6 shots per game. Overall, the 6’1″, 195-lbs winger has played 13 AHL games. He has 4 points (2-2-4), and is +2 with 2 minutes in penalties. He’s also managed 13 shots on goal.

Vadim Tarasov -G (Drafted-99(7/196))

Tarasov continues to suffer from a groin injury, and remains in Montréal undergoing treatment for the injury. Overall, the 5’11”, 187-lbs goalie has played 3 AHL games. He is 2-0-1 with a 2.28 GAA, and a .926 save percentage.

Jerome Marois -LW (Drafted-99(9/253))

Mississippi’s Jerome Marois is just beginning to feel comfortable since returning from a one month layoff with a leg injury. Overall, the 6’0″, 192-lbs winger has played 9 ECHL games. He has 6 points (4-2-6), and is minus-4 with 20 shots on goal.

Olivier Michaud -G (Free Agent-2001(3-y contract))

Michaud was invited to attend Canada’s 2002 World Junior Championship selection camp. The 18-year-old goaltender has come a long way since last year’s NHL Entry Draft, when NHL scouts didn’t think enough of his game to draft the Shawinigan goaltender. The Beloil native won his only start since our last update. He stopped 16 shots to earn a shutout during a 6-0 win over Rimouski. Overall the 5’11, 163-lbs goalie is 18-3-1 with a QMJHL leading 2.11 GAA, and a .901 save percentage. He’s second in the league with 18 wins, while his save percentage is good enough for 5th place.

Christian Larrivée -C (Drafted-00(4/114))

Chicoutimi’s Christian Larrivée picked up 6 points through 3 games this week. His best offensive game came against Victoriaville, when he scored 2 goals and added 1 assist during a 4-2 win. He’s second on his team in goals scored, and is currently on a 6-game point scoring streak. Overall, the 6’3″, 195-lbs Larrivée has played 29 games. He has 36 points (18-18-36), and is +2 with 25 minutes in penalties. Seven of his 18 goals were scored on the powerplay, while one other was scored shorthanded.

Duncan Milroy -RW (Drafted-01(2/37))

Swift Current’s Duncan Milroy was shutout through 3 games since our last update. Overall, the 6’0″, 185-lbs winger has played 26 games. He has 31 points (20-11-31), and is -5 with 20 minutes in penalties. Six of his goals were scored on the powerplay, while 2 others were scored shorthanded.

Josef Balej -RW (Drafted-00(3/78))

Portland’s Josef Balej managed 5 points through 3 games since our last update. He was shutout during Sunday’s game against the Kelowna Rockets, thereby ending a season -high 5-game point-scoring streak. Overall, the 5’11”, 175-lbs winger has played 23 games. He has 31 points (16-15-31), and is +10 with 16 minutes in penalties. Two of his goals were scored short-handed, while 5 others were scored on the powerplay.

Andrew Archer -D (Drafted-01(7/203))

Guelph’s Andrew Archer managed 2 assists through 3 games since our last update. Overall, the 6’4″, 195-lbs stay at home defenseman has played 29 games. He has 9 assists to go along with 36 minutes in penalties. His plus/minus is currently even.

Eric Himelfarb -C (Drafted-01(6/171))

Sarnia’s Eric Himelfarb managed 2 goals through 3 games this week. He was shutout during Sunday’s loss to Toronto, thereby ending a 5-game point-scoring streak. Overall, the 5’9″, 161-lbs center has played 31 games. He has 37 points (17-20-37), and is -2 with 27 minutes in penalties. Four of his goals were scored on the powerplay, while 2 others were scored shorthanded.

Mike Komisarek -D (Drafted-01(1/7))

Komisarek was named the CCHA’s defensive player of the week for the week ending November 25th. His offensive outburst continued this week, as he scored 1 goal and added 3 assists. His best offensive game came against Ferris State, when he picked up 3 assists during a 6-1 win. He’s currently on a 4-game point-scoring streak, and is tied for the team lead in plus/minus. Overall, the 6’4″, 228-lbs defenseman has played 15 games. He has 14 points (6-8-14), and is plus-9 with 36 minutes in penalties. One of his goals was scored shorthanded, and he’s managed 38 shots on goal.

CCHA defensive player of the week for the week ending November 25th.

Chris Dyment -D (Drafted-99(4/97))

Boston University’s Chris Dyment was shutout through 1 game since our last update. Overall, the 6’3″, 202-lbs. defenseman has played 12 games. He has 7 points (4-3-7), and is +8 with 10 minutes in penalties. Three of his goals were scored on the powerplay, while another was scored shorthanded.

Matt Shasby -D (Drafted-99(5/150))

Alaska-Anchorage University’s Matt Shasby managed 1 assist through 2 games this week. Overall, the 6’3″, 200-lbs. defenseman has played 13 games. The only player on the current UAA roster who’s been drafted by an NHL team, Shasby has 6 points (2-4-6) with 41 minutes in penalties. Both his goals were scored on the powerplay.

Scott Selig -C/RW (Drafted-00(6/172))

Northeastern University’s Scott Selig was shutout through 1 game this week. Overall, the 6’3″, 180-lbs. forward has played 12 games. He has 1 goal, and is a disappointing -8 with 16 minutes in penalties. His lone goal was scored on the powerplay, and he’s directed 22 shots on goal.

Ryan Glenn -D (Drafted-00(5/145))

St. Lawrence University’s Ryan Glenn was shutout through 2 games this week. Overall, the 6’2″, 210-lbs. defenseman has played 11 games. He has 1 assist, and is -2 with 4 minutes in penalties. He’s directed 20 shots on goal.

Alexander Buturlin -RW (Drafted-99(2/39))

The 6’0″, 187 lbs. Buturlin has played 20 games in the RHL with Salavat Yulayev. He has 5 points (2-3-5) to go along with 8 minutes in penalties.

Alexander Perezhogin -C (Drafted-01(1/25))

Perezhogin is playing with Mostovik Kurgan of the Russian High League. Official stats show that the 5’11”, 175-lbs center has played 19 games. He has 24 points (14-10-24) to go along with 10 minutes in penalties. He’s also played 2 games this season with Omsk of the Russian Super League, where he’s scored 1 goal through 2 games to go along with 4 minutes in penalties.

Joni Puurula -G (Drafted-00(8/243))

HPK’s Joni Puurula continues to dress for game, but has yet to see any in-game action.

Johan Eneqvist -F (Drafted-00(4/109))

Leksands IF’s Johan Eneqvist scored 1 goal and added an assist through 2 games since our last update. Overall, the 6’0″, 190-lbs forward has played 22 games. He has 4 points (1-3-4), and is -1 with 14 minutes in penalties. Eneqvist continues to adjust to playing against men. His recent success may provide him with the necessary ice-time to continue his development.

Tomas Plekanec -LW (Drafted-01(3/71))

Kladno’s Tomas Plekanec managed 1 assist through 3 games since our last update. Overall, the 5’10”, 196-lbs winger has played 28 games. He has 11 points (4-7-11), and is -7 with 24 minutes in penalties.

Victor Ujcik -F (Drafted-01(9/266))

Slavia Praha’s Viktor Ujcik scored 4 goals and added 1 assist through 3 games this week. Overall, the 5’10”, 194-lbs winger has played 28 games. He has 22 points (11-11-22), and is -6 with 16 minutes in penalties.

Hab you Heard?

Kim Staal, the Habs’ 4th round pick in ’96 has 15 points (7-8-15) through 27 games with Modo of the Swedish Elite League. He’s +2, with 6 minutes in penalties, and one of his goals was scored on the powerplay.

-Ilkka Mikkola, the Habs’ 3rd round pick in ’97 has 1 goal through 26 games with Jokerit of the Finnish Elite League. He is +4 with 10 minutes in penalties.

-Evan Lindsay has a 5-4 record though 9 games with Mississippi of the ECHL. The 6’1″ goalie has a 3.54 GAA, and an .892 save percentage.

The weekly update for Hab prospects playing in the AHL will be posted within the next 2 days. The delay is due to the fact that the Citadelles are playing an unusual Monday night game this week.
