Canadiens’ weekly prospects update

Ron Hainsey -D (Drafted-00(1/13))

Hainsey scored 1 goal through 3 games this week. His first goal since returning from a wrist injury came during a 6-5 loss to Worchester. The goal was also his first non-powerplay goal this season. Overall, the 6’3″, 200-lbs defenseman has played 15 games. He has 7 points (4-3-7), and is +2 with 8 minutes in penalties. Three of his 4 goals were scored on the powerplay.

Mathieu Garon -G (Drafted-96(2/44))

Garon was unable to record a win through 3 starts since our last update. He continues to struggle to find his game, as well as his confidence. This week saw his goals against average balloon from 2.54 last week to 3.14 this week. Overall, the 6’2″, 192-lbs goalie has a 5-2-2 record with an already mentioned 3.14 GAA, and a .904 save percentage.

Eric Chouinard -F (Drafted-98(1/16))

Chouinard scored 2 goals and added 3 assists through 3 games this week. He rebounded from a 9-game scoreless streak, and now has points in 5 of his last 6 games. Overall, the 6’3″, 207-lbs forward has played 28 games. He has a team-leading 25 points (11-14-25), and is +1 with 8 minutes in penalties. Surprisingly, only 1 of his 11 goals has been scored on the powerplay; which speaks volumes for Chouinard’s 5-on-5 play this season. He also has a team leading 83 shots on goal.

Francois Beauchemin -D (Drafted-98(3/75))

Beauchemin was shutout through 1 game this week. He was a healthy scratch during 2 of the last 3 games. Overall, the 6’0″, 201-lbs defenseman has played 12 games. He has 4 points (2-2-4), and is -3 with 10 minutes in penalties. Beauchemin has also played 7 ECHL games with Mississippi. He has 4 points (1-3-4), and is -1 with 2 minutes in penalties. He’s directed 13 shots on goal.

Marc-Andre Thinel -F (Drafted-99(5/145))

Thinel was shutout through 3 games since our last update. He has only 1 point in his last 22 games. Overall, the 5’10″, 178-lbs winger has played 29 games. He has 5 points (2-3-5), and is +1 with 2 minutes in penalties. He also has 18 shots on goal.

Mathieu Descoteaux -D (Drafted-96(1/19) Edmonton)

Descoteaux managed 2 assists through 3 games this week. Overall, the 6’4′, 208-lbs defenseman has played 28 games. He has 13 points (5-8-13), and is -8 with 18 minutes in penalties. All 5 of his goals were scored on the powerplay, and he has 63 shots on goal.

Vadim Tarasov -G (Drafted-99(7/196))

Tarasov continues to suffer from a groin injury. He remains in Montréal, where he’s undergoing treatment for the injury. Overall, the 5’11″, 187-lbs goalie has played 3 AHL games. He is 2-0-1 with a 2.28 GAA, and a .926 save percentage.

Jason Ward -F (Drafted-97(1/11))

Ward managed 2 points through 3 games since our last update. Both his points came during a 5-5 tie with Manchester. Overall, the 6’3″, 193-lbs winger has played 29 games. He has 19 points (5-14-19), and is -8 with 94 minutes in penalties. One of his goals was scored on the powerplay, and he’s directed 70 shots on goal.

Marcel Hossa -C/W (Drafted-00(1/16))

Hossa scored 2 goals and added 2 assists through 3 games this week. He’s currently on a 3-game point-scoring streak, and has points in 6 of his last 7 games. Overall, the 6’2″, 211-lbs winger has played 30 games. He has 17 points (7-10-17), and is minus-3 with 16 minutes in penalties. He’s also directed 70 shots on goal, while 2 of his 7 goals were scored on the powerplay.

Martti Jarventie -D (Drafted-01(4/109))

Jarventie scored 1 goal and added 3 assists through 3 games this week. During his last 7 games the Finnish defenseman has matched the point total (5) he registered through the seasons’ first 17 games. Overall, the 5’11″, 185-lbs defenseman has played 24 games. He has 10 points (3-7-10), and is -9 with 4 minutes in penalties. He’s also registered 48 shots on goal.

Timo Vertala -W (Drafted-96(5/181))

Vertala was shutout through 2 games this week. Overall, the 6’1″, 180-lbs. winger has played 24 games. He has 5 point (4-1-5), and is -5 with 12 minutes in penalties. He’s managed 30 shots on goal. One of his goals was scored on the powerplay, while 2 others were scored shorthanded.

Michael Ryder -W (Drafted-98(8/216))

Ryder scored 3 goals and added 1 assist through 4 games since our last update. He was named Mississippi’s top player during the week, and is averaging nearly 6 shots on goal per game. Through 10 games with Mississippi the Newfoundlander has 12 points (7-5-12), and is -2 with one powerplay goal. Overall, the 6’1″, 195-lbs winger has played 13 AHL games. He has 4 points (2-2-4), and is +2 with 2 minutes in penalties. He’s also managed 13 shots on goal.

Jerome Marois -LW (Drafted-99(9/253))

Mississippi’s Jerome Marois scored 2 goals through 4 games since our last update. He’s really struggling defensively, which is likely a product of his slow adaptation to the pro game. Overall, the 6’0″, 192-lbs winger has played 16 ECHL games. He has 8 points (6-2-8), and is minus-10 with 31 shots on goal.

Olivier Michaud -G (Free Agent-2001(3-y contract))

Michaud was named to the Canadian World Junior Team this week. The Beloeil native continues to live a dream year. He’s gone from a goaltender deemed unfit to be drafted, to one of the top-2 junior-aged goaltenders in Canada (able or eligible to play for team Canada, of course). Overall the 5’11, 163-lbs goalie is 19-3-2 with a QMJHL leading 2.17 GAA, and an .897 save percentage.

Christian Larrivée -C (Drafted-00(4/114))

Chicoutimi’s Christian Larrivée picked up 4 points through 2 games this week. His best offensive game came against Sherbrooke, as he scored 1 goal and added 2 assists during a 7-6 loss. He’s tied for second on his team in goals scored, and is currently on an 11-game point-scoring streak. Overall, the 6’3″, 195-lbs Larrivée has played 34 games. He has 46 points (23-23-46), and is +2 with 27 minutes in penalties. Nine of his goals were scored on the powerplay, while another was scored shorthanded.

Duncan Milroy -RW (Drafted-01(2/37))

Duncan Milroy was shutout through 2 games this week. Following 4 points in his first 2 games with Kootenay, the 18-year old has now gone 3 games without a point. Overall, the 6’0″, 185-lbs winger has played 31 games. He has 35 points (21-14-35), and is -7 with 26 minutes in penalties. Seven of his goals were scored on the powerplay, while 2 others were scored shorthanded.

Josef Balej -RW (Drafted-00(3/78))

Portland’s Josef Balej managed 5 points through 3 games since our last update. All 5 of his points came during a 10-1 win over Vancouver. Overall, the 5’11″, 175-lbs winger has played 31 games. He has 41 points (21-20-41), and is +12 with 20 minutes in penalties. Two of his goals were scored short-handed, while 8 others were scored on the powerplay.

Andrew Archer -D (Drafted-01(7/203))

Andrew Archer managed 1 assist through 3 games this week. Guelph’s recent defensive struggles have shown up in Archer’s plus/minus, which has fallen from a season-high plus-5 to its current minus-1 standing. Overall, the 6’4″, 195-lbs stay at home defenseman has played 35 games. The Guelph assistant captain has 11 points (1-10-11), and is an already mentioned -1 with 50 minutes in penalties.

Eric Himelfarb -C (Drafted-01(6/171))

Sarnia’s Eric Himelfarb managed 4 points through 2 games this week. His best offensive game came against Windsor, as he scored 1 goal and added 2 assists during the 5-3 win. The 18-year old is currently on a 5-game point-scoring streak, and has points in 16 of Sarnia’s last 18 games. Overall, the 5’9″, 161-lbs center has played 36 games. He has 46 points (20-26-46), and is -5 with 37 minutes in penalties. Six of his goals were scored on the powerplay, while 2 others were scored shorthanded.

Mike Komisarek -D (Drafted-01(1/7))

Komisarek was shutout through 1 game this week. Komisarek joined the US junior squad in Ann Arbor on Sunday. The team will fly to Switzerland for 2 exhibition games before beginning the big tournament Christmas day. Overall, the 6’4″, 228-lbs defenseman has played 18 games. He has 14 points (6-8-14), and is +8 with 40 minutes in penalties. One of his goals was scored shorthanded, and he’s managed 45 shots on goal.

Chris Dyment -D (Drafted-99(4/97))

Boston University’s Chris Dyment did not play in any games this week. Overall, the 6’3″, 202-lbs. defenseman has played 14 games. He has 10 points (5-5-10), and is a team-best +12 with 12 minutes in penalties. Four of his goals were scored on the powerplay while another was scored shorthanded.

Matt Shasby -D (Drafted-99(5/150))

Alaska-Anchorage University’s Matt Shasby did not play in any games this week. Overall, the 6’3″, 200-lbs. defenseman has played 15 games. The only player on the current UAA roster who’s been drafted by an NHL team has 8 points (3-5-8) with 43 minutes in penalties. All 3 of his goals were scored on the powerplay.

Scott Selig -C/RW (Drafted-00(6/172))

Northeastern University’s Scott Selig scored 1 goal through 1 game this week. The goal broke a 9-game scoreless streak, and was the sophomore’s second of the season. Overall, the 6’3″, 180-lbs. forward has played 13 games. He has 2 goals, and is a disappointing -8 with 16 minutes in penalties. One of his goals was scored on the powerplay, and he’s directed 24 shots on goal.

Ryan Glenn -D (Drafted-00(5/145))

St. Lawrence University’s Ryan Glenn managed 1 assist through 1 game this week. Overall, the 6’2″, 210-lbs. defenseman has played 14 games. He has 2 assists, and is -4 with 8 minutes in penalties. Although he’s yet to score a goal this season, his 25 shots are good enough for 6th place on SLU’s roster.

Alexander Buturlin -RW (Drafted-99(2/39))

The 6’0″, 187 lbs. Buturlin has played 24 games in the RHL. He has 5 points (2-3-5) to go along with 10 minutes in penalties.

Alexander Perezhogin -C (Drafted-01(1/25))

Perezhogin will play for Russia during the upcoming World Junior Tournament in the Czech Republic. He’s played most of this season with Mostovik Kurgan of the Russian High League. Official stats show that the 5’11″, 175-lbs center has played 19 games. He has 24 points (14-10-24) to go along with 10 minutes in penalties. He’s also played 3 games this season with Omsk of the Russian Super League, where he’s scored 1 goal to go along with 4 minutes in penalties.

Joni Puurula -G (Drafted-00(8/243))

HPK’s Joni Puurula has begun to dress for games for the first time since the preseason, but has yet to see any in-game action.

Johan Eneqvist -F (Drafted-00(4/109))

Leksands IF’s Johan Eneqvist was shutout through 3 games since our last update. Overall, the 6’0″, 190-lbs forward has played 26 games. He has 4 points (1-3-4), and is -3 with 16 minutes in penalties

Tomas Plekanec -LW (Drafted-01(3/71))

Kladno’s Tomas Plekanec managed 2 assists through 1 game since our last update. The young winger will play for the Czech Republic during the upcoming World Junior Championship. Plekanec also played on last year’s gold medal winning squad, where he scored 1 goal while adding 1 assist through 7 tournament games. Overall, the 5’10″, 196-lbs winger has played 32 games. He has 13 points (4-9-13), and is -7 with 26 minutes in penalties.

Victor Ujcik -F (Drafted-01(9/266))

Slavia Praha’s Viktor Ujcik scored 1 goal through 2 games this week. Overall, the 5’10″, 194-lbs winger has played 33 games. He has 24 points (13-11-34), and is -10 with 16 minutes in penalties.

Hab you Heard?

Kim Staal, the Habs’ 4th round pick in ’96 has 23 points (11-12-23) through 32 games with Modo of the Swedish Elite League. He’s +5, with 10 minutes in penalties. One of his goals was scored on the powerplay. He currently sits in 17th place among Swedish point-scorers.

-Ilkka Mikkola, the Habs’ 3rd round pick in ’97 has 1 goal through 29 games with Jokerit of the Finnish Elite League. He is +4 with 10 minutes in penalties.

-Evan Lindsay has an 8-7 record though 16 games with Mississippi of the ECHL. The Habs’ fourth round pick in ’99 has a 3.64 GAA, and an .889 save percentage.
