FORGE WINS 2

NEVILLE ISLAND — The Pittsburgh Forge Junior A hockey team swept the
Springfield Junior Blues, 3-1 last Friday, followed by a 7-0 shutout
Saturday night at the Island Sports Center. With the 2 victories,
Pittsburgh improved its record to 21-8-2 in the North American Hockey
League’s East Division.

On Friday Pittsburgh’s Josh Coyle got the first goal of the game when he
scored on a spinning move from about 10 feet out at the 4:02 mark of the
second period. The Forge increased its lead to 2-0 early in the final period
when Sean Berkstresser scored on a deflection at the 2:48 mark. Pittsburgh
goalie Tim Heneroty lost his bid for his second shutout of the season when
John Hooks of the Junior Blues scored with a minute and 28 seconds left in
the contest. The Forge scored the final goal of the night at the 19:28 mark
when Andy Brandt stole the puck behind the net and fed Kenny Trombetta in
front for the goal for the 3-1 win.

On Saturday Pittsburgh jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead with both goals
coming before the game was nine minutes old. Jim Thamann got the Forge on
the scoreboard at the 6:00 mark when he beat Springfield goalie Jamie Flury
during a scramble around the net. At 8:49 of the opening period, a Brandon
Warner slap shot between the circles made it 2-0. A pair of power-play goals
in the second period increased the Pittsburgh advantage to 4-0. The first
came on a wrist shot by Mike Handza at the 8:09 mark, and the second was by
Pat Levendusky at 19:01. Handza¹s goal was his team-leading 15th of the
season.

Levendusky now leads the club with nine power-play goals.
Pittsburgh added third-period goals by Andy Brandt, Andy Cote and Gabe
Rehak, as the team had seven goals by seven different players on the
evening. The seven goals were also the most scored by the Forge in any game
this season. Goaltenders Tim Heneroty and the newly acquired Peter Mannino
combined on the shutout. Mannino replaced Heneroty midway through the
game¹s final period.

Whats coming up: The Forge will next see action on Friday, January 11 in a
7:30 p.m. contest at Chicago. The game against the Freeze will be the first
of five straight road games for the Forge. Pittsburgh¹s next home game will
be Monday, January 21 vs. the Cleveland Barons.
